Teacher of Music Technology/Music – Maternity Cover

Are you an inspirational teacher of Music Technology and Music, with a passion for your subject wishing to work with an excellent team of musicians?

Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon, only 30 minutes from Central London. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. We aim to build on this alongside improving academic success to continue to be the family school of choice in South London. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) has recently judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas.

Music is a major Department within the school. There is a flourishing extra-curricular programme of choirs and instrumental ensembles, alongside a full academic programme of class music, from Year 7 all the way through to Year 13. In the 6th form we are re-introducing Music Technology as an A Level from September 2018. This is a maternity cover position for November 2018 initially until Summer 2019 but with the possibility of permanency. Candidates looking for part-time roles will be considered.

You will be enthusiastic and energetic in your approach and have a deep-rooted knowledge of the subject enabling you to build upon the successes already enjoyed by the department. Our ideal candidate will be confident in the delivery of Music Technology A Level, and will also be able to deliver Music A Level. The ability to teach music at KS3 is desirable.

A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme and support the pastoral life of our school is essential. The current teacher runs both our Swing Bands and is very involved in the life of one of the girl’s day houses.

This exciting opportunity offers excellent benefits including a salary above SNS scale with a generous allowance for suitably qualified and experienced staff, and a market rate for recruitment. Allowances are available for specific pastoral and academic responsibilities. We also offer immediate access to TPS and life cover, free car parking and meals, and 50% discount on school fees (pro-rata for part time/term time staff). You will be working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, and have use of our on-site tennis courts, swimming pool, gym facilities, combined with the opportunity to be part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School.

To apply, you will need to submit a fully completed application form, taking care to ensure that your supporting statement outlines the extent to which you meet our requirements as set out in the person specification, and details of two referees, one of which should be a current or most recent employer, to hr@royalrussell.co.uk. References may be taken up before interview. Applications will be considered on receipt and should arrive no later than 12 noon on Thursday 28th June 2018. Interviews will be at the school on Tuesday 3rd July 2018. We reserve the right to interview at any point during the recruitment process so early applications are encouraged. Applicants who have not heard from us by Friday 29th June 2018 should presume that they have not been successful on this occasion.
