Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working as a member of a team, has an optimistic outlook and who is constantly seeking ways in which they can improve on their current practice. Applicants will be expected to have experience of teaching at least two of the school’s five main sports (athletics, cricket, football, hockey and rugby) and be prepared to be involved in extra-curricular activities including fixtures on a Saturday morning.

This position is a permanent, full-time position and the successful applicant will be paid on the main professional scale. The successful applicant will be required to teach PE and Games to students in all year groups, including Years 12 and 13 and undertake the role of form tutor delivering a fortnightly lesson of Personal and Social Education. Experience of teaching GCSE and A-Level PE is less important than the willingness and ability to do so.

The position is effective from 1st September 2023.

The school has a modern sports hall on the main site along with new changing facilities and a modern, state of art fitness suite. The school’s playing fields are located on Trinity Road, under a mile from the main site, and include rugby pitches, a cricket square, tennis and netball courts and recently refurbished changing facilities.

All pupils in Years 7-11 have a weekly lesson of PE and together with Years 12 and 13 a double lesson of Games each week. Further details on the PE curriculum can be found on the school’s web site (www.keaston.bham.sch.uk)

The department offers an extensive range of opportunities for the pupils to participate in competitive matches against other schools. In rugby, hockey, cricket, football and athletics the school runs year group sides and enters teams in league and cup competitions.

King Edward VI Aston School is one of the six King Edward VI Grammar Schools in Birmingham and a member of the King Edward VI MAT. The school is committed to safeguarding the well being of its students and the successful candidate will be required to undertake DBS and Prohibition checks.

Applicants should send a completed school application form and a covering letter, including the names and addresses of two referees, to the Headteacher at vacancies@keaston.bham.sch.uk
