The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed teacher of PE, who can meet the rewarding challenge of inspiring our talented and highly motivated girls, both during curriculum time and in their extra curricular activities. S/he will be a graduate who has flair and vision together with the necessary sporting and organisational experience to succeed in a post of this standing. S/he will be committed to the welfare and individual development of all the pupils in his/her care.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach swimming and PE from Key Stage 2 to Year 11 as well as to play a significant role in the wider life of the school, by contributing to our large extra curricular sporting programme after school and on Saturday mornings. In particular, s/he will have the ability to coach and manage teams in netball and tennis. In addition, s/he will have a strong supporting role in the delivery of athletics, lacrosse, swimming and/or rounders. S/he will be fully computer literate. Good communication skills, oral and written, are also essential. A detailed person specification is included with the application pack.
The Department is lively and energetic, as well as being committed to developing the girls’ confidence, fitness and enjoyment of physical education. In the Department the teachers value team work, a sense of humour, and a genuine interest in sport. There are five teachers within the Department, including the Head of Department and a part-time colleague who teaches in the Junior School. Each member of the department has particular interests and areas of expertise across a range of sports, but all support each other with the delivery of the extra curricular programme.
The Department has its own office in the Girls’ Division, next door to the School’s gymnasium. The Department shares some of its facilities with the Boys’ Division, namely the Sports Hall and the swimming pool, both of which are on the main School campus. As far as outdoor space is concerned, the Department makes comprehensive use of the netball and lacrosse pitches which are a short walk away from the main campus, as well as using the netball courts and the fields which are on the main site.
