Fixed-term | Full-time | KS3 to KS5 | Prep and Senior School

This co-educational Independent day and boarding school in North Essex is looking to appoint a suitably qualified, creative and enthusiastic teacher to work within our PE team. Physical Education is an integral part of our curriculum and is closely linked to our extensive sports programme offered to pupils of all ages and abilities. This position is currently offered as a one-year fixed-term contract, though opportunities to extend in the future may arise.

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive teacher to join our team across both the Prep and Senior School (KS3 -KS5). The successful candidate will have experience of teaching one or several of the examined courses we offer - GCSE PE, A Level PE, BTec Sport, Health & Sports Sciences (IB). Additional training can also be provided. It would also be an advantage to be able and willing to deliver a small proportion of Science lessons at Key Stage 3. It is also expected that the successful candidate will be able to make a significant contribution to our sports programme, by leading and coaching teams throughout the academic year.

Applications are welcome from ECTs, or those with suitable expertise looking to enter the profession, as well as more experienced teachers: the school has an excellent support programme for teachers starting their careers and works with ISTIP to enable ECTs to be awarded full QTS.

A desire to contribute fully to the school is a must. Felsted School has its own salary scale which compares favourably against other independent schools and is well above that of the maintained sector.

Benefits include free life assurance and parking, contributory pension scheme, morning refreshments and lunch provided and free use of the Felsted Gym and pool facilities. We also offer an on-site subsidised Coffee Shop and membership to Felsted Connect; an online multi-platform engagement tool where employees have access to hundreds of exclusive discounts and offers from online and high-street retailers.

Felsted is a leading day and boarding independent school based in a stunning village campus in North Essex. Founded in 1564 by Richard Lord Riche, who had been a Lord Chancellor under King Edward VI, Felsted today provides an exceptional holistic education to approximately 1100 boys and girls aged four to eighteen. We celebrated our 450th anniversary in 2014, one of only a handful of schools in the country that have claimed this historic milestone. We employ more than 160 teachers and 440 operational staff in a community orientated environment, ensuring our pupils receive the very best in learning and co-curricular activities.

Closing date for receipt of applications is Thursday 17 April at 5pm. Early applications are encouraged and we reserve the right to close the advert earlier should we receive a high volume of applicants.

Shortlisting is expected to take place on Tuesday 22 April. Interviews will be held either later the same week or the following week.

About Felsted School

Felsted School

Felsted was named ‘Boarding School of the Year’ by the prestigious Times Educational Supplement and it’s easy to see why.

Our beautiful 90-acre countryside campus is the setting for an education for day pupils as well as our boarders that is exciting and inspiring. We embrace modern teaching methods and technology while celebrating the traditions of our 460+ year history too. All this is just an hour away from both London and Cambridge, and 20 minutes from Stansted Airport.

At Felsted, pupils aged four to 18 have everything they need to grow and thrive.

Classes are small throughout our independent school and every pupil is treated as an individual, encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, discover new interests and build on their passions.

From our youngest Felstedians in the Prep School starting on their learning journey, to our Sixth Form students in the Senior School who are busy studying at either A Level or the successful International Baccalaureate programme, every child has the space to grow and thrive so that they can go out into the world and make a difference.

Our education is broad, inclusive, inspiring and considered. Absorbing knowledge is of no use to our students if they do not have the skills and sensitivities to apply it in real-world situations, so there is an all-pervading emphasis across both the academic and co-curricular programme on developing the personal attributes and characteristics that will enable each student to make an active contribution to society and to find fulfilment in life.

Along the way, they discover their own strengths as well as talents and interests that often become life-long passions. Whether the arts, sports, adventure and leadership, or perhaps debating or engineering, there are infinite opportunities for students to grow through participation in all Felsted has to offer.

This happens under the guidance of teaching and non-teaching staff who are dedicated to supporting young people as they discover their own characters and what fascinates and drives them. Resilience, self-belief and integrity, as well as understanding and respect for others are key, as is the skill and joy of working together towards meaningful achievements.

Our brand values are the truths that Felsted aspires to operate by every day and underpins everything we do. Upholding these values is a measure by which we can judge our success.

Our brand values are expressed in the following words, with every day evidence of them shown through our school stories.
