Job overview

“An OUTSTANDING school demonstrating strong practice in Behaviour, Safety, Leadership and Management.” Ofsted

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a dynamic suitably qualified teacher of Physical Education who has a real passion for the subject and who is capable of teaching across all key stages, with the capability of inspiring, challenging and stimulating students. The post would equally suit a newly qualified ECT or experienced teacher who has obtained a good degree in Physical Education or a related discipline. The ability or willingness to teach A Level and OCR Technical Level 3 is desirable but not essential.

The Physical Education Department at Vyners is a high performing one, both within the school context and against the national backdrop. Our students are enthusiastic, motivated and seek to reach the high expectations we have of them. Our exam results have been consistently outstanding over recent years; 2022 GCSE results were 92% 9 – 5 and 49% 9 – 7.  A-Level results were 90% A* - C and 74% A8 – B.  We also offer OCR Vocational Sport courses at Key Stage 4 and 5 and 2021 saw 100% L1P – L2D* at KS4 and 100% D*D* - DM at KS5.  The extra-curricular programme is extensive with the aim to try and offer something to inspire every student. The ethos at the heart of the department is ‘Sport for All; and we work hard together for the students to gain positive sporting experiences. An individual who has experience of Football and Rugby is desirable but not essential.

Vyners is a very popular and oversubscribed mixed eight form entry, 11-18 comprehensive school, situated in a pleasant residential area in North West London, bordering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.   We have a track record of real success at all Key Stages. In 2019, 87% of students achieved grades 9-4 in both English and Maths at GCSE and we are consistently ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress measures and attainment.  At A-Level 33% of all grades were A* - A and 54% A* - B.  The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2011 and is part of the Vanguard Learning Trust which also includes one other secondary and one primary school.

We are well known for high academic standards, good behaviour, and our strong community spirit including a strong house system with students leading their peers. “Pupils have a positive attitude towards their work and enjoy learning” (Ofsted 2019). Many students are involved in extracurricular sport, music and drama, performing at a high level including prestigious public events and performing in our own school productions.

We offer you:

  • A well established and well respected Continual Professional Development program.
  • Creative opportunities and mentoring for continual career progression.
  • A friendly, innovative and exciting community in which to work.
  • A lively and supportive team of specialist PE teachers achieving excellent results.
  • A comprehensive and first class new employee induction programme.
  • An annual two day Staff Conference with excellent keynote speakers.
  • Excellent facilities including Interactive whiteboards, onsite gym, ample car parking and access to local transport.

Vyners School is a non-denominational, mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Ickenham, in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The school is named after Sir Robert Vyner, who was a Lord Mayor of London and lived nearby. It first opened its doors as a grammar school in early 1960, and later became a comprehensive school. It gained academy status in 2011 and has around 1,200 students aged 11-18.

Headteacher

Values and vision

The Vyners School values were developed by governors, students, parents and staff in 2013. They are: community, aspiration, respect and endeavour. Vyners School encourages students to be resilient, unafraid to take calculated risks and make mistakes. Its values, the school hopes, will help pupils to stretch themselves, because the most valuable learning often takes place outside their comfort zone.

The school seeks to blend a 21st-century education with more traditional behavioural and uniform standards. It aims to produce rounded and grounded young people who will make a positive contribution to the world. Vyners School specialises in mathematics and computing.

Ofsted report

“Students achieve well and their attainment is well above average and improving in nearly all subjects and for most groups.  Teaching is good and improving rapidly. This is recognised by parents, carers and students."

“The best lessons are ambitious, helping students to work things out for themselves and achieve their very best.  Behaviour and attitudes are exceptional. All students and parents and carers are clear that the school is a safe place to learn. Relationships are positive and students embrace their learning with enthusiasm.”
