Job overview

The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational individual to our strong and successful Arts & Humanities Faculty. The college prides itself on having supportive, reflective, creative and ambitious staff who work to achieve the best outcomes for students. We treat our staff and students with respect, listen to both and involve all in our continuous improvement. Staff and student feedback are embedded in our systems.

The successful applicant will be working as part of a highly ambitious Film, Media and Photography team which has developed rapidly over the last 20 years, catering for the creative needs required in the wider community. Our courses range from level 2 to Level 4, in collaboration with Coventry University working as part of the BFMAT. We have established a solid reputation for guiding students onto a wide variety of University courses and into productive roles within the Creative Arts industry.

Photography facilities include a well-equipped classroom with iMac’s for every student, lighting studio and a small darkroom. There is also access to our Film, Media and Photography tech store with over 20 Canon camera’s, portable lighting, tripods, print facilities and a variety of camera lenses. The subjects are supported by a team of experienced and highly qualified technicians to assist with staff and student equipment requirements on a daily basis.

The responsibilities

The Photography teacher should, preferably, have knowledge and experience of teaching at FE level, delivering high quality lessons in support of the Eduqas AL Photography specification. At present we have approximately 80 students who would benefit from an individual who can encourage a genuine and ambitious creative culture within their teaching to produce quality results, both academic and photographic.

Collaboration and sharing skills with other subjects within the Curriculum Area, such as Art, Media, Drama and Film are also widely encouraged. We require a team orientated individual who can see the benefits of subject interaction and exploring creative opportunities at every level within the college, BFMAT and the wider community.

The college

This is an exciting time to be joining our high performing Sixth Form College as we develop partnership links across the education sector.  We are pleased to be the founding College in the Better Futures Multi Academy Trust with Coventry University, which now includes Bilborough Sixth Form College and Gateway Sixth Form College. Working within a trust environment will be central to every role within the college.

The college has approximately 1400 students and 135 staff and is growing yearly

King Edward VI College Nuneaton is a Sixth Form College that was established in 1974 on the site of King Edward VI Grammar School in Nuneaton. The College now has approximately 1,350 students aged 16-19 years and 130 staff and is growing yearly.

King Edward VI College Nuneaton prides itself on a friendly, personal approach and its ability to maintain a high level of success for all its students.

One of the reasons for the success of the college is that students enjoy studying here, and the proportion of students completing their courses continues to be excellent and amongst the highest in the country.

If student achievement is compared to their achievement at GCSE, calculations using official government measures of what is known as "value added" show our students to be achieving as well or better than would be expected from their starting point.

All our staff are committed to giving students the best possible learning experience in their period in college and we aim to continue in the future the successes achieved by our students.
