Blatchington Mill School is a superb place to work.

If you are a great classroom teacher, a self-reflective practitioner, a highly effective communicator and have ambition to develop your career, then please apply to join us in creating an ‘ethic of excellence’ for all our students.

Blatchington Mill is a ‘Good’ school, with ‘Outstanding’ behaviour and safety. We achieve positive value-added in our exam results, stretch our most able, and support our most vulnerable. We innovate in the classroom, placing huge value on teacher-led action research and professional development. We work in partnership with schools locally and nationally and believe in collaboration and school-led improvement. We are also a designated Stonewall Training School.

Our most recent reviews of the school have commented that:

“The energy, enthusiasm and personal interest shown by leaders are highly motivational, creating a culture of initiative, innovation and success.”

“Staff work collaboratively to learn from each other, strong teams are built and so teachers guide and support each other. This has developed a culture in which staff are confident and eager to improve; where they view challenges positively.”

“There is a high level of mutual respect and trust between teachers and students and between students themselves; contributing successfully to students’ moral and social development. It is rare to see students not engaged with their learning.”

“Students are well behaved, courteous and polite. They show positive attitudes to the teacher, their learning and each other. This makes a strong contribution to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that pervades the school.”

“The school is very inclusive, and students show respect and consideration for one another in their behaviour in classrooms and around the school.”

Ofsted Report

“Leadership, including governance, is good and improving. Shared ambitions ensure that senior leaders and middle managers have high expectations for the school. As a result, student outcomes have improved continuously since the previous inspection. Students do well in their GCSE examinations, especially in science, humanities, languages and performing arts. The development of students’ numeracy and literacy skills is particularly strong across the curriculum … Students’ behaviour is excellent as shown in high levels of concentration in lessons and in the way they take responsibility for their own learning.”
