Job overview

We seek to appoint an exceptional Teacher of Physical Education who has a proven track record of good or outstanding classroom practice.

As Britain’s first federated school, our campus embraces two schools, Boys’ and Girls’ with a co-ed Sixth Form.  We are a World Class School, hold Beacon School status and work in effective partnership with several organisations including City in Excellence in Teaching and East London Teaching School Alliance. With state of the art buildings and facilities and a team of innovative, experienced and dedicated professional staff, Bishop Challoner is an exciting and supportive environment in which to work and develop your career.

Physical Education is a highly popular subject at the school, attracting high numbers across examinable courses in KS4 and 5.  However, we are not complacent - working with a team of passionate and dedicated practitioners, you will contribute to the development of a faculty that aims to maintain an outstanding reputation.

The PE department is extremely committed to providing a safe, relevant, enjoyable and all-inclusive curriculum. As a school we recognise the role that sport can play in the holistic development of a young person and the integral role this plays in society. The PE department provides a wide variety of sports, ensuring that pupils can pursue their sporting interests both inside and outside of school. In addition to providing an inclusive curriculum we are a school that actively encourages the pursuit of sporting excellence. We have a number of students and sports teams that compete at a regional and national level with our most successful sports being football, basketball, netball and athletics. A high level of experience in any of these sports is desirable though not essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional teacher. You do not need to be a practising Catholic to apply.

We offer:

• An established and comprehensive induction programme

• A strong commitment to your professional development and career management - excellent CPD and leadership development at all levels

• A supportive environment in which your enthusiasm will be encouraged, nurtured and rewarded

• A working environment focused on Teaching and Learning and raising standards for all

• A positive and stimulating school climate which values the contribution of all staff

OFSTED has quoted "In this high performing school, students make rapid progress and reach high standards in many subjects” and “Leaders and managers at all levels, provide the drive and ambition needed to ensure that this wonderful school continually improves”

We are looking for professionals with:

• Evidence of excellent classroom practice

• A track record of successful student outcomes at KS3, KS4 and KS5

• High expectations of pupil attainment and behaviour

• Passion for providing an extensive amount of extra-curricular opportunities for our young people
