We require a well-qualified physicist to join our Physics department that enjoys outstanding results within the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, to deliver within the following qualification range: AS and A level Physics.
Qualifications: Appropriate subject related degree and teaching qualification. (PGCE, Cert Ed).
Experience: Ideally, currently teaching or recent experience of teaching Physics to A level. NQTs are also very welcome.
Knowledge and Skills:A sound understanding of Physics. Good practical skills and the use of Information Technology to support teaching and learning.
Personal Qualities: Excellent teamwork and communication skills and effective organisation. Flexible approach and well organised work patterns.
Motivation and expectations: A commitment to high standards, to motivate and support staff and encourage the growth and maturing of students.
Salary range: On the new SFCA salary scale £22,937 (Point 1) to £38,364 (Point 9) pro rata for part-time.
Physics AS and A levels are currently taught in four hours and 20 minutes per week following the AQA Physics A specifications. There are approximately 140 students in the 1st year and 100 students in the 2nd year.
The Science department has been refurbished and has projectors in all laboratories. Development in the Science area is based on the attainment of Beacon status, and the building of good links within the community, with industry and areas of scientific research.
Members of the teaching staff are also personal tutors. Tutors monitor progress and offer support and guidance to some twenty-five students. The ability to contribute to the enrichment programme would also be welcome.
