Shenzhen College of International Education:

SCIE is an independent IGCSE and A Level college (high school), founded in 2003 with the intention of sending the best Chinese students to top universities in the UK and USA by providing a full international education through the medium of English. The college is highly selective, accepting on average only 10% of applicants; as a result, the student body is exceptionally gifted and well-motivated. SCIE has had a great deal of success since its foundation with a large number of students being accepted by Oxford and Cambridge Universities; 27 students taking up Oxbridge places in 2018. The college is a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and a member school of the regional organisations, EARCOS and FOBISIA. The current campus is located about 5 minutes away from the border with Hong Kong and about 1 hour away from Central, Hong Kong and Hong Kong International airport. In August 2020 the college will move to a new purpose-built campus in the same district, expanding to 2000 students by 2023.

Specific Responsibilities:

Teacher of Physics. To give you some further information, our Physics department consists of 12 full-time teachers and 2 lab technicians with 4 dedicated laboratories, teaching IGCSE Physics in G1 and G2 and AS/AL Physics in A1 and A2. The subject is compulsory at IGCSE level and about 95% of students continue to study AS with around 160 going on to complete the second year of the A Level. About 95% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and 70-75% at both AS and A Level. Each year many students choose to apply to Physics or Engineering courses in top universities in the UK and US, including 8 successful Oxbridge candidates for Physics or Engineering in 2018.

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays) and the normal student contact time is 24 x 40 minute periods per week, in addition to class preparation. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 wk for October National Day and 3 wks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

Salary:

According to our published salary scale, plus housing allowance or school apartment, full international medical cover (self + dependent) and annual flight allowance (self + spouse).

Requirements:

• A degree in your area of expertise

• A teaching qualification (PGCE, BEd or equivalent)

• 2 years teaching experience in the relevant area

Shenzhen College of International Education:

Founded in 2003, SCIE is the city’s first full-time high school (Year 10 to Year 13) teaching an international curriculum. SCIE is a highly selective day and boarding school teaching an international curriculum to Chinese students preparing them for overseas universities. SCIE has a very diversified staff who come from more than 20 countries, not only UK, New Zealand, the United States and Australia, but also Canada, France, Brazil, India, Ireland, South Africa and Spain. Currently, the College has over 200 full-time teachers and 88 administrative staff members.

In August 2020, the College moved to its new purpose-built campus in Antuoshan, Shenzhen. The new site is fully equipped for the College expansion with smart classrooms, a large number of science laboratories, a 750-seat theatre, sports facilities and all that we need to facilitate the high quality teaching and learning of the College community. The top floor, with a comfortable staff lounge, gym and designated areas for meetings and CPD, is accessible to staff only. Staff are housed in the separate adjacent staff block, which offers two and three-bedroom furnished apartments.

Antuoshan is in Futian, the CBD district of Shenzhen. The campus is within walking distance to international shops, supermarkets and restaurants. It is a stone's throw away from the Antuo Hill subway station, giving easy and convenient access to the city’s extensive metro network.
