Teacher of Physics

The Harrodian SchoolRichmond upon Thames

We are seeking a dynamic and well-qualified Physics teacher to join our innovative Science department. The successful Physics specialist should be able to teach, inspire and motivate pupils from Years 7 to 13 inclusive through a diverse range of learning styles. The ability to teach Key Stage 3 Science and either Biology or Chemistry to Key Stage 4 would be an added advantage, but our primary focus is for a Teacher of Physics with A Level experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, teaching and assessment within the Physics department.  They must be a team-player and demonstrate an enthusiasm and willingness to assist in physics-related trips and events.

Our pupils follow the AQA specification at GCSE and A Level. We offer both the separate science Physics GCSE course and the Combined Award (Trilogy). The Physics department at Harrodian is thriving and Physics is a popular choice for A Level.

We are continually developing our range of teaching resources within the department and we have a suite of six well-equipped laboratories, serviced by our two technicians. Practical work is a key aspect of Science teaching, and we endeavour to provide a range of exciting opportunities for pupils to develop their skills. Our annual Science Fair allows our Year 7 pupils to indulge their love of science as they plan and carry out their own investigations.

Founded in 1993, Harrodian is co-educational and set in 25 acres of grounds with excellent facilities. Harrodian offers teachers and students alike a friendly, welcoming and exceptional school environment where classes are small and standards and expectations are high.  We place a strong emphasis on the ability to convey enthusiasm and enjoyment of the subject to students across the ability range.  A sense of fun, a readiness to respond to students’ individual needs and an open approach to teaching are qualities that we value highly.  A teacher’s willingness to assist with a large range of extra-curricular activities is important in this dynamic and vibrant school. Teaching staff are expected to offer support to the learning, pastoral and co-curricular needs of our pupils to ensure the all-round quality of education offered at Harrodian.
