The Post and the Department

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher to join our highly successful Politics department. Our A-Level results are outstanding with 50% gaining A*/A grades over several years of examinations and nearly 30% receiving an A* in 2017. This is matched by an excellent value added record. We are a vibrant and dynamic department which embraces the importance of politics as a contemporary, ever-changing subject.

The Politics department at d’Overbroeck’s offers teachers and students alike a friendly and welcoming environment where classes are small (maximum 10 at A-Level) and standards and expectations are high.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to planning, teaching and assessment within the Politics department, which follows the Edexcel Politics specification covering Politics in the United Kingdom and the United States as well as political ideologies. They will work alongside the Head of Politics, Andrew Colclough as well as three other teaching colleagues.

The Person

We are looking for a suitably qualified, talented and committed teacher of Politics to join our strong team of teachers. The successful applicant will be expected to teach any or all topics falling within the A Level specification in years 12 and 13. We place a high degree of importance on strong subject knowledge as well as the ability to convey enthusiasm and enjoyment of the subject to students across the ability range. We embrace a flexible approach to teaching and would welcome someone with a sense of fun and a readiness to respond to students’ individual needs.

All applicants will be expected to have a very good degree in Politics or a related subject and be able to demonstrate their teaching ability. The school does not insist that its staff possess a PGCE or equivalent formal teaching qualification, though many members of staff have an appropriate qualification. NQTs receive a full induction programme through ISTIP (http://istip.co.uk) with the support and guidance of senior members of staff. Graduates who have not completed a PGCE receive an extensive in-house training programme. We pride ourselves on our ability to offer support and training to NQTs and recent graduates.
