The College is looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking graduate who can teach Public Services to BTEC Level 3 from Easter or September 2018.

Public Services is part of the Sport & Public Services Department which is one of the largest in the College and students’ achievements compare very favourably with national benchmarks. The Department offers BTEC Level 2 Award in Public Services, BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services, A Level PE, BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport, BTEC Level Subsidiary Diploma in Sport, BTEC Level 2 Award in Sport and the Community Sport Leaders’ Award (CSLA) Level 1.  

The Department organises a number of day trips, for example, to outdoor activity centres to take part in skiing and rock climbing, to Box Hill for Orienteering and the National Watersports Centre for water based activities. These trips are a core part of the curriculum and support the students in their studies.  

The Department works closely as a team in a friendly and co-operative manner. Strong emphasis is given to mutual support by the exchange of ideas and materials and thus the co-operative construction of Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans.     

The successful applicant must be willing to try out new approaches and resources, to share good ideas and also be skillful at motivating and encouraging colleagues. They should also be able to draw on suitable industry experience to contextualise their teaching. Candidates should have good IT skills plus a willingness to use relevant information technology in the classroom.  

The College has a strong commitment to provide tutorial support and guidance for students.  The successful candidate would be expected to manage a tutor group of lower and upper sixth students within the Faculty. 

As well as enabling students to obtain qualifications for progression, the Department also strongly believes in the value of the subject and the part it plays in the general development and wellbeing of the individual. To that end, a range of physical recreational activities is offered through which students of all abilities can achieve success. By involving as many students as possible, the department also aims to add both enjoyment and balance to an individual’s College life as well as to help them continue their participation in physical activities into adult life.  

The College currently runs competitive teams in Men’s and Ladies Football, Rugby, Netball, Hockey and Basketball and it has developed a reputation for its sporting achievements at local, county and national levels. The College also enters British Colleges competitions in a wide range of other sports including Badminton, Trampolining and Tennis and is keen to develop competitive sport further.  

The College has its own purpose-built and well-equipped Sports Hall with an excellent fitness gym. The College also has tennis/netball courts and excellent playing fields and sports’ pavilion. It also makes regular use of a number of Outdoor Pursuits’ facilities in the area.  

The ability to offer a second subject such as Sport or Fitness/Gym qualifications would be an advantage.

This post is suitable both for experienced teachers and those beginning their career in the profession. Above all, we are seeking someone with an excellent knowledge of Public Services and the ability to make the subject come alive for our students. We also want to appoint a good team player who will be skillful at motivating and encouraging colleagues to try out new approaches and resources. The person appointed must be confident in the use of Information Technology in all aspects of their work.      

The salary for this post is up to £15,123.80 (38.10%) to £22,681.72 (57.14%). The full-time equivalent salary is £39,695.
