Job overview

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and innovative Teacher of RE to join our thriving Humanities department from 1 September 2015. The Humanities department, of which RE is part, is an extremely experienced and supportive one. The department currently has five full time members of staff and is a lead partner school for a local Initial Teacher Training organisation and as such we are joined by three trainees during the course of the year. We welcome applications from well qualified RE specialists who are seeking a challenge in a supportive and high-performing environment. This role, which will allow us to add to our RE expertise would suit an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge or an exceptional NQT.

RE is part of our core curriculum and all students study full course at GCSE. Last year 100% of students achieved A*-C in full course, a testament to the already exceptional teaching within the department. At Key Stage Three we have constructed a knowledge driven, rich and varied curriculum which both challenges and inspires our students thanks to its academic rigour.

All students are taught in dedicated and well-resourced classrooms and students value the high quality teaching they get at Bedford Free School. The successful candidate will join a department considered to be the core strength of the school and will have ample opportunity to contribute to the wider life of our busy, successful school.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake appropriate checks as well as providing proof of your right to work in the UK.

BFS opened in September 2012 and is now heavily oversubscribed, reflecting our established popularity and reputation with local parents. We have now celebrated three sets of solid GCSE results that put us top in Bedford and amongst the best in the region. In the coming years we aim to become one of the top performing schools in the country and as we continue to develop, we are looking to recruit excellent teachers who share our values and beliefs. We now wish to appoint more outstanding professionals to join our team.

Our staff will:-

  • share our values of respect, honesty and high expectations
  • believe that every student, regardless of background  is capable of the highest level of behaviour and academic success
  • be expert in their subject

In return we offer well-motivated, polite and hard working pupils and the opportunity to join an exciting school as it begins its next phase of development. We believe in 'growing our own' staff and as such, there are always opportunities for further training and career progression. We have a reasonable approach to workload with our 'no marking' feedback policy, no requirement for formal lesson plans, and a large amount of professional autonomy.
