Job overview
Westminster Academy specialises in International Business and Enterprise. It serves a multi-ethnic community in Central London, and at the heart of our approach is the personalised curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile.
At Westminster Academy, we believe that education is success. By providing all of our students with a world-class education, we prepare them to be competitive on the international stage. We strive to be the best in every field, as is demonstrated in achieving our ‘Outstanding’ status. As a member of staff at a fast-paced, forward-thinking organisation, you will genuinely be changing lives.
We are looking for a driven, innovative and organised classroom teacher, with Citizenship or RS experience, to join our dedicated and successful Humanities department. In Summer 2017, 71% of students gained A*-C in RS. RS has been a successful and expanding subject with 53 students studying the new AQA A GCSE. Following staffing changes in September, the subject is now planned and taught collaboratively within the faculty and we would like to add a dedicated specialist with additional expertise to this subject area.
Within Citizenship we have 126 students who are following the new AQA GCSE course. Despite many success stories in Citizenship, this summer the overall attainment was disappointing at 45% A-C. As a consequence of fully integrating Citizenship within Humanities, the growing popularity and needs of the subject, we like to add capacity to the existing team of 1.5 dedicated Citizenship teachers.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, highly motivated and excellent classroom practitioner who is committed to student success and development. They should have experience planning and delivering either Religious Studies or Citizenship and have some experience teaching other subjects within Key Stage 3 Humanities (History and Geography).
The willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities is also important. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a team that is making a difference.
What we offer:
● an innovative educational concept;
● an excellent programme of continuing professional development;
● be given the opportunity to develop personally and professionally;
● have the chance to shape the future of the subject.
