Job overview

The City of Leicester College is seeking to employ an enthusiastic and highly motivated Teacher of Religious Studies from September 2023. The post is permanent, and we welcome applicants from early career teachers as well as highly experienced (UPR) teachers.

Do you want to join one of the most culturally and religiously diverse schools in the country? A school that genuinely puts the wellbeing of their teachers first? A school that places significant value on professional learning and career progression but also strongly believes in developing an inclusive, dynamic, high achieving learning community, where all students and staff grow the character needed for success in all aspects of their lives?

This is an exciting time to be joining The City of Leicester College. Religious Studies is highly valued in the school and has generous curriculum time and a large department of subject specialists. Religious Studies is a core subject at GCSE and was a popular A level option this year. The team is a cohesive unit and is looking for someone who is creative and ambitious. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach the full range of ages and qualifications. It is important we get the right teacher who shares our belief that our students deserve the very best. Therefore, the successful candidate will:

  • be a highly successful teacher, who embodies our school mission statement, ‘Ambition for All’
  • be highly motivated and demonstrate an ability to learn
  •  be able to support the development of highly engaging and ambitious schemes of work within the department
  • have a clear understanding of pedagogical knowledge in the teaching of RS.
  • be a team player and relish in the opportunity to work with colleagues within the RS department and beyond

The City of Leicester College sits at the heart of the East Leicester community and has many staff who attended here as students, including senior and middle leaders. We pride ourselves on our cultural diversity and inclusive attitudes and beliefs. Our thriving 11-19 college, with around 1750 students on roll, includes a highly successful sixth form of around 350 students. Whilst we are the largest school in the city, we maintain a distinct community identity and prioritise the health and wellbeing of our staff and students alike. In recent years, we have made huge changes to ensure that ambition sits at the heart of everything we do. The changes we have made to curriculum, behaviour and personal development programmes have seen us deliver the best exam results we have ever had by some considerable margin.

For the successful candidate we can offer you:

  • a challenging, rewarding inner-city multi-cultural, multi-faith community
  • a school where we are truly ambitious for the community that we serve
  • a friendly and supportive working environment where staff work as a team to deliver student success
  • a fantastic, well-resourced inspiring learning environment
  • access to excellent technology resources
  • CPD pathways to meet your interests and needs
  • a health and wellbeing forum and calendared HWB activities

Please attach a cover letter to your application, no longer than two sides of A4, outlining how your skills and experience make you a suitable candidate for this role.
