Job overview

Teacher of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics (RPE)

RPE is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range and at all levels of ability and enjoys results above the national average.  It is compulsory between Years 7 - 10, being taught in mixed ability groups in Years 7 and 8, and sets in line with English in Years 9 and 10.  It is a compulsory subject in Years 9 and 10, at the end of which students complete a full course GCSE. The current Y10s will be the first cohort to complete the new 9-1 AQA Religious Studies A GCSE.  In the Sixth Form, we have previously offered AQA Philosophy A Level, which has been popular with students. The current Y12s will be the last to complete this as we have decided to offer the Eduqas Religious Studies A Level from September 2018.

The Department is well stocked and is constantly engaged in extending and improving its range of resources. We collaboratively plan and share good practice on a regular basis.

The successful candidate will be expected to be an excellent classroom practitioner with an up to date knowledge of the requirements of assessment across all Key Stages. They should be willing to share good practice within their Department and across the Directorate.  They will be expected to be able to teach across the age ranges, and ideally the A Level course.

Above all else, the successful candidate should love their subject and be enthusiastic about the opportunities available to students through their studies. They should enjoy working with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals.
