1 year fixed term contract at 0.8 / full time hours considered

Start date: 1 September 2023

Would you like to work in a “harmonious community” where “pupils are keen to learn and respectful to all”? (Ofsted, November 2021). Would you like to work at a forward thinking Grammar School providing students an opportunity to improve their life chances? Do you want to work in a supportive environment with the possibility of progression? If so, then Borden may be the school for you. At Borden we are committed to providing students in Swale every opportunity to improve their life chances. You would be joining a strong team of specialists, focused on pedagogical improvement and passionate about creating a love for their subject. The successful candidate should be confident that Borden is an exciting and supportive place to work.

Science subjects have a high take-up rate in KS5, where all three disciplines are popular.  At GCSE the majority of students are entered for the Separate Science pathway. Historically, outcomes at KS4 have been strong. However, there is still work to be done, particularly in relation to the proportion of students securing A*-B grades at A-level. The department also offers various science based extra-curricular projects and the successful applicant would be expected to contribute positively to this approach.

This is a role for an enthusiastic teacher with strong subject knowledge, and a love of learning, who is committed to achieving high standards in all areas of school life. You will have a clear personal ethos about the achievement of boys and should be driven by a belief in the power of education to improve life chances.

Application process: Although the closing date is 12.00pm on Monday 27 March; the school reserves the right to consider the merit of early applications. If you would like to apply please return a fully completed application form (leaving no gaps in employment). to Ms Lara Bateman at lbateman@bordengrammar.kent.sch.uk or by post to the school address. Please do not send a CV, however you may provide a covering letter as part of the application form.

It is supported by its own single-academy trust, the Borden Grammar School Trust. Values and Vision

As you enter our school you will be forgiven for failing to notice our school motto written on the entrance hall carpet. Whilst dating back to before the second world war it remains as valid as it has ever been. ‘Nitere porro’ means ‘to strive forward’ and is both a description and a goal. We are a small and personal community school committed to supporting and inspiring our young people to achieve their potential in a modern world. This means creating successful young people who understand that their future matters and so always try their best. However, the goal is not just a personal one. We genuinely want all our students to leave us with a fully developed ‘moral compass’ able to navigate the world and driven to make it a better place.

This over-arching goal is underpinned by three core aims,

To Support:
For Borden to be a happy and vibrant community, providing the skills, aptitudes, self-discipline and independence needed for future success.

To Inspire:
For all students to have high aspirations and to become ethical leaders of their future.

To Achieve:
For every student to aim, and achieve, higher.

At Borden you will find that students are honest, friendly and proud to belong to a great school. It is a school where each day students learn as much about themselves as about the constantly changing world in which they live. Alongside this you will discover that the teachers possess the expertise to stretch, support and challenge the brightest students.

Ofsted

“The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. [The headteacher has] continued to raise standards and [has] tackled the areas for improvement well, with a clear focus on improving key aspects of teaching, learning and assessment. The school is improving because of the clear leadership that [the headmaster] and [their] senior leadership team provide. There is a strong sense of community and pupils are rightly proud of their school and the opportunities it offers.”
