Job overview

Would you like to progress your career in a school that is consistently one of the very highest performing in the North East? Where student behaviour is described by OFSTED as ‘impeccable’? Would you also like to work in a fantastic, newly built school, set in one of Durham’s most scenic areas? If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’ then Sedgefield Community College could be right for you.

We welcome applications both from those with successful teaching experience, as well as those who will newly qualify in 2017 and will therefore wish to progress their career in an outstanding and supportive Science faculty under the guidance of a dynamic Subject Leader.

If you consider yourself as someone who has the ability to engage and enthuse students with a love of Science then we would like to hear from you. A teaching strength in either Chemistry or Physics is desirable although not essential.

Applicants should complete an application form and indicate through a letter (no more than two sides of A4) how their experience to date has prepared them for this role and how they would ensure future success.

Durham County Council is an Equal Opportunities Employer. We want to develop a more diverse workforce and we positively welcome applications from all sections of the community. Applicants with disabilities will be invited for interview if the essential job criteria are met.

Any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Please note that the Childcare Disqualifications Regulations 2009 apply to this position and therefore you are required to complete the “disqualification by association” declaration form. Should you be successful in your application for this post, your appointment can not be progressed without this declaration.

Application materials can be downloaded from the vacancies section of the school website www.sedgefieldcommunitycollege.co.uk Completed applications are to be returned to personnel@sedgefield.cc The Headteacher, Dave Davies, welcomes informal discussion; please phone should you wish to speak to him.

The closing date for applications is: Monday 5th December 2016 (12 Noon)
Interviews to be held on: Week commencing 12th December 2016

Named in the Sunday Times list of the UK's top 50 schools (11 to 16),  Sedgefield Community College is now firmly established as one of North England’s consistently highest performing schools, with a reputation for outstanding and creative teaching and learning allied with strong, successful leadership. Whilst we are proud of our reputation as a highly successful school, as measured by its examination performance, we also take immense pride in the reputation we have for developing outstanding teachers and leaders.

In March 2017, Sedgefield was subject to an OFSTED inspection and as a result judged to be outstanding in all respects, however this significant achievement did not signal the end of the school’s commitment to achieving ever improving standards in all aspects of its work, rather it has merely acted as the catalyst for further progress.

Our student's attitudes to learning are excellent, with OFSTED going so far as to describe student conduct as ‘impeccable’. The high standard of care and support we provide our students has over time created a tangible bond between students and staff and as a result relationships between adults and students are such that we can confidently describe our students as welcoming, respectful and thoughtful and Sedgefield as a ‘happy’ school.

Having moved into our stunning new school building in 2011, we recognise how fortunate we are to have such a superb learning environment and the facilities that it provides. Whilst an impressive building does not necessarily equate to an outstanding school it certainly plays its part in supporting the culture of high standards and excellence that permeates everything that we do.
