Job overview

 Teacher

Can you inspire & develop our young people?

Located near the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, on the edge of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, Underley Garden School is an independent specialist school rated Good with Outstanding features. Learning is at the heart of everything we do, and we offer specialist education to our small group of 50 pupils, aged 5 to 19, who have autistic spectrum conditions and learning difficulties. We believe that all our young people have the potential to learn and we are passionate about developing their capacity to live a fulfilling life.

Underley Garden seeks an enthusiastic and qualified teacher who can inspire children with complex learning needs across all three disciplines of Science and Maths from Key Stage 1 level up to and including GCSE’s.

The role would be suitable for any teacher, including Primary teachers, who have a general good knowledge and understanding of the subjects Maths and Science. The young people at Underley Garden are all individual and so the teacher is required to plan and deliver lessons in order to meet individual’s needs and understanding. The young people are often working below age expected levels and so GCSE level is a minor part of the curriculum.

The young people who attend Underley Garden all have an EHCP. Underley meets the needs of a range of SEN including; Autism, Learning Difficulties, Mental Health & Medical needs and related behavioural difficulties.

We can offer an attractive package, including planning and preparation time, a well-organised and resourced department, friendly, supportive colleagues, well motivated young people and small class sizes.
