We are excited to be offer a career defining opportunity for an exceptional teacher to join the incredibly strong Science team in our superb academy on a permanent basis as a Teacher of Science.

Start Date: September 2022

We are looking for a Science teacher with personality, someone who is committed to supporting students to achieve their potential and can embody our trust vision of ‘Outcomes Focused, Child Centred’. Our teachers are conscientious, passionate about their subject and have a real love for learning. Above all, we are looking to appoint a team player to contribute to a high performing and well-established department.

The Science department at Kirk Balk boasts nine fully equipped laboratories and one prep room. Students benefit from being able to carry out practical’s using a vast array of equipment, delivered by subject specialists and expertly supported by a technician. Our 5-year spiral curriculum follows the AQA big ideas, with standardised lessons written by teachers across the trust. This model allows for the sequencing and interleaving of key themes to enable students to make good progress. Students at Kirk Balk study either GCSE trilogy or triple Science as part of the Guided Pathways process at the end of the Year 9. In recent years, outcomes in Science has significantly improved and we are in a strong position to build upon this for the future.

The successful candidate will benefit from a fantastic chance to work with a dedicated and passionate staffing body, both in and out of the Science department. You will receive daily support from the senior leadership team and will have the opportunity to deliver lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4. You will also benefit from a shared common curriculum across the Trust, as well as an ethos of allowing ‘teachers to teach’. As a consequence, we want this to be a friendly and informative site which gives visitors detailed information about us in an appealing, interesting and exciting way. We also hope the site keeps you up to date with the latest news and events from the academy.

We are unashamedly focused on the educational outcomes of our students and deem that our students deserve to achieve the very best grades that they are capable of. We believe that this is the whole point of running a great school and we are exceedingly proud that we achieve this by taking a truly child centred approach. Our students are the most important people in our building!

In addition to the core business, there are also countless opportunities to learn, develop, make new friends and have fun through extra-curricular activities. In addition to this, we offer extra-curricular opportunities in drama, music, dance, and many other areas. There are countless trips, outings and charity events too, via our well-developed House System.
