Job overview

TEACHER OF SCIENCE – MPS

To start September 2017 or January 2018.

At Holy Trinity, the leadership team, staff and governors are completely focused on nurturing each individual in order that they reach their full potential. We are determined to raise standards for our pupils and to develop independent, aspiring and caring young people. You will be joining a school at a time of innovation, development and rapid improvement, building on our strong foundation of care, commitment and challenge. Staff are valued and supported to grow as professionals and students to aspire to achieve at the highest level. Outstanding relationships underpin our cohesive and forward looking community. Staff and pupils are proud to be part of our school.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced teacher; passionate about teaching and learning with the determination to drive our school forward; raising standards and creating outstanding life chances for our pupils.  We have a Science Department of 5 full-time teaching staff and one full-time technician. The teaching facilities and resourcing of science are both first class.   This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious Science Teacher to work within a supportive and forward thinking department at Holy Trinity. We have developed our own Key Stage 3 ‘spiral’ curriculum based upon a 5Es model of learning and SOLO taxonomy, which is both engaging and seeks to challenge pupils. This is just one aspect of the strategy to raise pupil achievement within Science, and is part of the work implemented since the Head of Science took up post in the school – a little under 2 years ago.   In 2016, there was an increase of 13% in pupils achieving A* to C in two Sciences. This year we are expecting a further rise of 8 to 10%. Moving forward, the ambition is to increase this further. This will include review and development of the Key Stage 4 curriculum to model that already in Key Stage 3; further refinement of assessment and tracking systems; widening opportunities to engage pupils in STEM activities and careers support; and, a focus on supporting pupils within key groups (SEN, PP, G&T).

We are looking to recruit an outstanding Science Teacher who wants to inspire, is excited by learning, and has a desire to be part of a high performing and successful team.  The successful candidate will be highly motivated and driven by a passion to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.    You must be capable of organising an effective learning environment, be creative and able to motivate all pupils, have excellent communication and organisational skills and be a dynamic and creative team player with excellent interpersonal skills. The ability and desire to contribute to the wider aims and ambitions of the Science Department would be most welcomed.

If you recognise yourself in this description, we would love to hear from you.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.  The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure & Barring Services form in line with Section 115 of The Police Act 1997.

Further information and application forms are available online at www.holytrinitybarnsley.org.  All Holy Trinity application forms should be returned to Holy Trinity marked for the attention of Miss Y Taylor, PA to the Headteacher.

Closing date: Friday 2nd June 2017 at noon.

You are warmly encouraged to visit the school.

A learning community providing Catholic and Church of England Education for all

Holy Trinity is unique, being the only purpose built 3-16 (through) Catholic and Church of England school in the country. Our Catholic and Church of England values form our distinctive Christian ethos, and this guides and supports everything we do in school. Our 3 – 16 through-school status offers exciting and innovative learning opportunities where primary children regularly learn from specialist secondary colleagues, and secondary students regularly work alongside and support primary pupils. We are keen to exploit these opportunities wherever we can and create a seamless transition between Key Stages 2 & 3.  We have the highest aspirations for our students, celebrating their achievement and recognising their success in all its forms as often as we can. We strive to create a positive, stimulating environment where everyone is supported, empowered and challenged to achieve their potential. We are fully inclusive and work as a beacon for our community, working together for the good of all. We place teaching and learning at the heart of all we do and have high expectations and aspirations for the progress of all our pupils.
