The BGGS Science Department are the proud winners of the TES Science Team of the Year Award 2016.  We are a stable, strong and welcoming team of Science specialists and are looking for an innovative practitioner to join us.

Bordesley Green Girls’ School and Sixth Form is a high achieving, oversubscribed girls’ community school on the eastern side of the City of Birmingham.   We are an inclusive, multi-cultural comprehensive school with a four form entry, 1,000 students of 11- 18 years on roll including 360 in the Sixth Form.

The Governing Body is currently looking to appoint a Teacher of Science to join our department of Science specialists in September 2019 and to teach Science across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and the Sixth Form. We particularly welcome applications from graduates of Biomedical Sciences or other disciplines which combine aspects of biological and chemical sciences.

The department has a strong reputation for success with students making outstanding levels of progress in Science and has an exceptional track record of examination success, curriculum design and developments in teaching and learning.  The successful candidate will:

• Have excellent interpersonal skills

• Be an outstanding teacher who inspires colleagues and students

• Have the energy, drive and commitment to make a real contribution to whole school

• Be confident in teaching across the Science Curriculum up to GCSE level

• Experience of teaching A Level Science would be an advantage, however is not essential

• Suitable for NQT’s

The BGGS Science department is an outstanding team: pupils make outstanding progress in the full range of Key Stage 4 courses and in A Levels Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our Sixth Form is very popular with a large and thriving Science team.

We were honoured that BGGS was invited to be the only UK school exhibiting at the 2015 Royal Society Summer Exhibition. Our Year 12 Physicists showcased the HiSparc cosmic ray detection project which we run every year in association with the University of Birmingham and the Institute of Physics. Our initiatives include the CLIL ‘European curriculum’ scheme: we teach some KS3 Science through the medium of French. Ongoing development of teaching and learning is a perpetual focus of our team, and the school as a whole. We are a supportive and collegiate team, striving to achieve the very best outcome for all our students. It is these proud achievements which lead us to be named as TES Science Team of The Year in 2016.
