Job overview

Come and join the work of St Paul's and be a key part of our happy and successful team

We are looking for a Science specialist to come and join our dynamic and successful team.  This is an ideal opportunity to develop in an engaging and innovative environment that will help you develop as a teacher and leader.

In choosing to work at St Paul's you will become part of a supportive and highly successful department and will flourish with the opportunities available through our leadership of the Sussex Maths Hub and Inspire Teaching School Alliance.

St Paul’s is an 11-18 mixed Catholic comprehensive school with a total of 1100 students on roll including 340 students in the Sixth form. The College has a strong ethos and is a vibrant Christian community. We are committed to making sure we never accept second best for the students in our care and look to give them a full experience of education that supports their academic, personal and faith development.

This is summarised in our mission statement and educational vision which is:

“To provide an innovative, inspirational and Christian education which challenges, nurtures and informs our students to enable them to take their place in a changing world.”

We are proud of all that students achieve at St Paul’s and this led to us being awarded High Performing Schools Status. Our 2017 results were:

  • GCSE: 80% 9-4 with English and Maths and a progress 8 score in the top 25% nationally.
  • A2: 70 A*-B, 88% A*-C and 42% A*/A. This is an ALPS rating of ‘excellent” over the last three years.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 students have gone on to study at Russell Group universities.

Essentially these results are built on a belief that we have a duty to ensure that every student achieves their potential with us. We also believe it is essential to give our students the best opportunities to develop as learners, personally and in their faith journey.

“St Paul’s is an outstanding school where all learn, thrive and succeed together.” Ofsted, November 2007

We believe it is important to work hard to maintain and build on the current standards as well as looking to move forward and continue to improve at St Paul’s in every way. Are you ready to be a part of this exciting opportunity?

We welcome candidates to visit the school  at any point and to get a taste of life at St Paul's. We will interview as soon as we get strong candidates so early applications are welcomed.

St Paul’s Catholic College is a mixed, non-selective, Catholic secondary school with sixth form, situated in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. There are approximately 1,150 students at the school, 250 of which attend the sixth form.

We are based in the heart of Sussex at the foot of the South Downs and with easy access to the beautiful Sussex coastline. Travel links are excellent with the vibrant city of Brighton within 15 minutes by car or train and direct rapid links to London and international travel through Gatwick Airport.

We look to use technology innovatively and creatively. This has led to all students having their own iPads and also excellent software tools for staff to reduce workload and work collaboratively.

St Paul’s Catholic College was opened in 1963 and in 2004 moved to its current site in a modern and innovative campus. The school plays an active role as part of Bosco Catholic Education Trust and leads the Sussex Maths Hub. This leads to exceptional opportunities for professional development in the classroom and as school leaders.

We pride ourselves in being innovative and never sitting back. We have a deep-rooted commitment to learning and progress. At the part of this is the belief that we have a duty to fulfil each person's potential. We would welcome you to come and visit and find out more.

Values and vision

St Paul’s Catholic College wants all students to achieve their God-given potential and to put their individual talents to good use, nurturing them in a caring and stimulating learning environment. We have a deep rooted commitment to prepare our students for life in the modern world so they will be both happy and successful in all they do.

The school's Catholic ethos encourages pupils to explore their faith and allows for them to develop spiritually, socially and academically. We believe that every student needs to feel 'known and loved' during their time with us.

St Paul’s Catholic College wants to offer a wide range of opportunities for students to have the best possible chance of success and excel both inside and outside the classroom. Enrichment activities available include sports clubs and drama productions, while initiatives such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award allow for pupils to push their boundaries and learn new skills. We would welcome the opportunity to share with you why we believe is such a special community to be part of.
