Job overview

Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge

Teacher of Science

MPR/UPR

Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is a new academy with the vision of becoming ‘the most transformational academy in England’.  This is a bold statement but one we feel we have a moral imperative to achieve.  The academy is now achieving great things, but this was not always the case.  The predecessor school, Sowerby Bridge High School, never achieved an Ofsted judgement of ‘Good’ (since Ofsted started inspecting schools), was significantly under roll in every year group and consistently produced mediocre outcomes for its young people.

For the first time in over a decade the school is now oversubscribed.  Our projections indicate another oversubscribed academic year in 2020-21 and we are planning additional recruitment to support this and to allow our students to thrive.

Our GCSE results over the last three years have validated the work we have already undertaken in the academy.  We are proud and the results our students have achieved means the academy can now be recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country.  However, our aspirations and ambitions are high - we are determined not to rest on our laurels and are always looking for ways to better serve our students.

We are now looking to appoint a Teacher of Science to continue our transformation.  If successful, you will be joining an organisation that places the values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility at the heart of our practise.  A recent external audit found that: ‘The values are central because senior leaders prioritise their implementation.  A programme of regular staff training, including role play, ensures that all staff, including newcomers, consistently adopt the language and expectations of the values.  Both teaching and non-teaching staff are fully committed to embedding the values in behaviour for learning.  A Year 8 pupil said that taking the values away ‘would destroy the school.’

Alongside these values is a belief that great schools can only achieve amazing things by employing the right people.  To this end, we have developed extensive CPD packages that ensure everyone, at every level, continuously improves to be the best version of themselves.  These packages are wide ranging and include:

  • Our 7-week induction to the classroom
  • CPD that is always underpinned by the latest research and reflects student needs
  • Our bespoke ’10 minute tips’ coaching package
  • Leadership development at all levels from Middle Leader, support with your SLE application through to NPQH

We also recognise that, as a teenager, growing up can be a difficult time.  At a time at which our students may require varying levels of support, we have invested heavily in our pastoral team, which now includes the following positions:

  • Two Senior Leaders with responsibility for pastoral care
  • Education Welfare Officer
  • Lead Attendance Officer
  • Attendance Officer
  • Attendance Administrator
  • Family Intervention Worker
  • Child Protection Officer
  • Five Year Leaders
  • Two Pastoral Support Mentors
  • EAL Engagement Officer

All of the above positions are non-teaching, demonstrating our commitment to dedicate our pastoral staff to pastoral issues.

Our vision is to be the most transformational academy in England.  If you would like to be part of our journey, we look forward to hearing from you.

You must be fully committed to optimising the opportunities that are available to children and young people, secure in the knowledge that you will be joining an ambitious forward-thinking Academy Trust that sets the standards for our family of schools and academies.

Start date: To be confirmed

Closing date: 9.00am on Monday 10th May

Interviews: To be confirmed

The Trinity MAT were first approached to work with the then Sowerby Bridge High School, when it had been graded as inadequate by Ofsted and had been ranked in the bottom 15% of all schools nationally.

After joining the MAT in 2018 the progress made has been outstanding. The academy has improved its Progress 8 outcome by 0.92 and the performance puts us comfortably in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country.

In September 2021 we will be adopting the new name of Trinity Academy Grammar to better communicate our identity, high standards and aspirations for our students. We have chosen a name which truly reflects our grammar school heritage, and to better showcase our core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as we continue to build on this legacy through our outstanding achievements and passion to help our students reach their full potential.

It is a very exciting time to be considering joining Trinity Academy Grammar.  We can offer candidates the opportunity to work in partnership with the Principal and the senior leadership team, teachers in the school and other professionals across the trust (including the Teaching School and West Yorkshire Maths Hub).

The working environment is supported by committed, hardworking and supportive colleagues who are focused on improving outcomes for our students. Comprehensive pastoral systems are embedded to ensure the behaviour of students is outstanding and they are happy and supported in their learning.

As an academy we have high expectations of staff, we expect staff to challenge our students and themselves. We set high standards and aim to display these in all that we do. Working for Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is rewarding, we can offer a fantastic environment, excellent CPD programmes and a range of opportunities to progress. These ambitions are shared across all schools within the trust.
