Required for January 2022, an enthusiastic, dynamic and ambitious Teacher of Science to join our thriving and highly regarded Science Department.  The post would suit an experienced or newly qualified teacher who is committed to teaching at the highest standard and raising the aspirations and achievements of our students.  Please note the fixed term contract will end on 31st August 2022.

Queens’ is a thriving and oversubscribed school with a well-established reputation for academic achievement. At GCSE the Average Attainment 8 Grade was 5.68. In 2019 85% of students achieved 5 Standards Passes including English and Maths.

Attainment 8 was 5.9.  Progress 8 was 0.39.

Since joining Queens' Science department in September, I was made to feel incredibly supported and I quickly felt part of this fantastic team. The Head of Science always prioritises the wellbeing of his teachers and promotes the importance of a work-life balance. Both of which are essential to ensuring we all teach our best lessons, every day. The department has an effective system in place to streamline the assessment and feedback process, while maximising the value to students, of the marking that we do.

Outside of the classroom, Science are known in the school for being a close-knit group of lively, sociable friends, where everyone is made to feel part of the team from their very first day at Queens'.

The Queens' School department is a lovely place to work. Everyone is very friendly and supports each other in every way possible. This is reflected in the fact that I am a long standing member of the Science Department. Also the early finish at 3pm has allows for a more positive work life balance. Further it has enabled me to pick up my children from their respective schools.

I started Queens' as an NQT and love it. Queens' science department is a sociable and lively place, the support is always there and everyone goes out of their way to make you feel involved. The children are at the forefront of everyone's minds at Queens' however, there is an emphasis on efficiency when it comes to workload seen through our marking policy, short reports and shared parents evenings. The students are brilliant, they are keen to do well and not a lesson goes by where you don't laugh.

In science, cake club is a highlight of our week and we regularly socialise outside of work.

SLT listen to the views of staff and a combination of this, our wellbeing committee and a 3pm finish allows you to easily have a good work life balance.

Queens’ School was formed in 1969 as a result of the amalgamation of Alexandra School, founded in 1901 and Bushey Grammar School, founded in 1950.  Bushey Grammar school, originally called Watford Central School, was established in 1912. Both schools vacated sites in Watford, Judge Street and Derby Road respectively. In 1985, Grange Park School became part of Queens’. 

The original Bushey Grammar School occupied the northwest side of the Aldenham Road and Alexandra School occupied the southeast side. A pedestrian underpass connected the two schools.

Queens' derives its name from three queens. Bushey Grammar School had a strong connection with the Queen's College, Oxford. Alexandra School was named after Queen Alexandra, the consort of King Edward VII. Our Queen Elizabeth II was on the throne at the time of the amalgamation.

The house based pastoral system is inherited from Bushey Grammar School with Auden and Sutherland located on the South Side and Newton and Drake, on the North Side.

Our school was successfully awarded grant-maintained status in 1993 and became a foundation school in 1999. In 2003, Queens' became a Specialist Sports College and in 2007 recognised as a High Performing School. In 2008, Queens' achieved Science College status.  Desiring greater freedom and autonomy, Queens' converted to an academy in 2011.
