Job overview

Teacher of Science (Chemistry)

Your new company

St Ninian's High school is a good school based in Douglas, Isle of Man.  The school is based ion a dual site, with two buildings approximately two miles apart. There are five laboratories at our recently opened Lower School site and seven labs at the Upper School site. The Lower School site is a base for KS3 students and the Upper School houses students in KS4 and KS5. Both sites are serviced by full time technician support. All staff are encouraged to teach on both sites and so travel between buildings during breaks and lunchtime is essential.

Your new role

The Science Department has several specialists in each subject area with eleven full time members plus part time teaching staff. The School is committed to teaching Science throughout the 11-18 age range and to students of all abilities. In Yr7 and Yr8 a broad and balanced Science course is provided with students being taught in separate subjects by specialists from Yr9 onwards. The Cambridge Co-ordinated iGCSE course is offered to most students in Yr10, with higher ability students studying iGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

What you'll need to succeed

The School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher of Science who can confidently and competently teach Science at Key Stage 3 & 4 and join the team of teachers delivering Chemistry at Key Stage 5. This permanent post will provide an interesting and rewarding position within the framework of a strong department for an adaptable and well-qualified teacher.  Candidates will have a desire to share and develop their own good practice, and contribute to the development of others in the department.

What you'll get in return

Teachers on the Isle of Man can enjoy the following benefits:  Excellent Induction Programme and a focus on continued professional development, housing allowance up to £200 per month, lower rate of income tax. £12,500 personal allowance 20% rate for the remainder (from 2017), “Golden Hello” - currently £4000 available over a 2 year period for NQT's, relocation expenses paid.

About St Ninian's High School

St. Ninian’s High School is recognised as a very good school already, but we continue to strive to improve the education provided for our students.
Learning is at the core of School’s ethos and our students are provided with the opportunity to be able to concentrate on their studies, to seek and receive help, to broaden their knowledge and to develop the skills which they will need later in life.
Students have extensive use of our excellent resources and facilities. We are also fortunate to have very high quality teaching and support staff. At the same time our students are encouraged to do their best in a pleasant and supportive atmosphere where, hopefully, they will gain the confidence and self-esteem necessary to enable them to succeed.
