Job overview

Congleton High School (CHS), a member of The Learning Partnership Trust, is a rural school located in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. Recognised by Ofsted as “An inclusive school where you aim to get the best out of everyone”. We have a strong team ethos, with students and staff alike welcoming the opportunity to help others succeed. Staff members work collaboratively together with each other, students and parents to build strong relationships and improve outcomes for all.

We are looking to appoint a full-time committed and enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our dynamic Science department and make a wider contribution to the ethos and values of the school. In Science we are committed to ensure that each student develops the necessary skills to be able to critically analyse the world around them and make logical conclusions. We believe practical work is at the core of our subject, placing investigations at the heart of our bespoke KS3 curriculum and supported by a fantastic and experienced technician team. Science is all about being curious and we encourage students to find the joy in the discovery of their work, widening the curriculum offer through a range of extra-curricular opportunities from science club to photography and house competitions, all designed to build and explore, in addition to the more traditional field trips and formalised university and workplace visits in 6th form.

We are a reflective team, constantly looking for ways to improve efficiencies and maximise the experience and outcomes of students to set them on the best course in life, whilst being mindful of the workload and wellbeing of staff. With this in mind, we have carefully sequenced our curriculum to ensure maximum retention of prior knowledge and have every lesson all potential 7 years of study pre-written allowing staff more time to tweak and create bespoke lessons of an excellent standard. Our 6th form offer includes the core 3 as well as an Applied Science course, helping to ensure that all those with an interest can access careers within our diverse subject. With such a large team, there is always opportunity for staff to broaden their knowledge and experience to continue with their own professional development.

The position would suit both an ECT or a professional looking to wider their experience and application will be considered from both. We have an excellent mentoring programme for ECTs and trainees within the department and ensure that every opportunity is given to help coach individuals where needed.

The trust subscribes to the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter and places staff wellbeing at the forefront of its strategic people priorities. Our ongoing commitment in this area is reflected in our employee offer that includes:

Discounts in retail stores, entertainment, and supermarkets

  • Benefits schemes in affordable tech, cycle2work, gym memberships and a car scheme
  • Employee assistance programme providing specialist advice and guidance in a range of areas including menopause, financial management, and up to 8 counselling sessions per referral
  • Flexible working offered as a day 1 right of employment
  • Free parking
  • Access to high quality CPD and secondment opportunities
