Job overview

To allow even more boys to benefit from Bruern’s unique offering, we are delighted to be opening Bruern Senior School from September 2022. At Bruern, we firmly believe that learning difficulties should not preclude academic success, and through expanding our provision we will provide boys with invaluable support throughout their GCSEs and beyond.

Bruern Abbey Senior School will be a boys' weekly boarding and day school. The school is based in the small village of Chilton in Buckinghamshire, a 20-minute drive from the current Bruern Abbey School site, and situated with excellent transport links to London. The centre of the school is a Georgian manor house that was built in 1740. The school benefits from impressive grounds, as well as the use of the associated barns, stable block and clock tower to provide inspiring classroom spaces.

In many respects, Bruern Seniors is similar to a traditional public school for boys aged 13 to 16, with breadth to the curriculum, including GCSEs and other nationally recognised qualifications, full and varied sports, and co-curricular programmes coupled with Bruern’s outstanding pastoral care.

We are seeking an experienced teacher of science to join Bruern Abbey Senior School on opening in September 2022.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Year 9 boys in the first year, and Year 10 and 11 boys as the school grows. The successful candidate must have a degree in a science or a related subject; experience of teaching science at Key Stage 4; an interest in dyslexia and other literacy difficulties; a willingness to undertake training in this area, and display high levels of patience and empathy. He/she may also have experience or qualifications in SEND teaching, and experience working in the independent sector.

The successful applicant will also be energetic and positive, willing to help with pastoral welfare, and may also pursue other interests by taking games, activities, or extra-curricular clubs.

Benefits

  • Full annual salary (above national pay scale - negotiable on experience)
  • Pension
  • Onsite accommodation for single occupancy
  • Working 8.00am to 6.05pm from Monday to Thursday, and 8.00am to 4.00pm on Fridays during term time. Some flexibility may be possible for the right candidate.
