At the heart of our vision is to create a truly outstanding school delivering the very best educational opportunities, nurture academic excellence and enhance ambition in all its pupils. We aim to inspire the next generation of professionals and entrepreneurs.

  • Be flexible, collaborative and resilient.
  • Contribute to the whole life of the school through our extensive enrichment programme.
  • Have the highest ambitions for your students, the department, the school and yourself.

We will offer you:

  • An energising and supportive working environment with high expectations and standards.
  • Students who are just beginning to make life goals; who are enthusiastic to look beyond the narrow confines of rural Cornwall.
  • Colleagues who are reflective, committed professionals; who are motivated by challenge and willing to go the extra mile for our students to achieve the very best results.
  • A unique opportunity to help build the school and the department.
  • A well-resourced school with 21st century teaching and learning facilities.

Brannel School is a mixed, maintained secondary school located in St Stephen-in-Brannel, near St Austell, Cornwall. Brannel School is maintained by Cornwall Council and moved into new premises in 2011, as part of the Building Schools for the Future scheme. The site includes a 200-seat theatre and cinema known as The Bell Theatre.

Headteacher

Andy Edmonds

Values and vision

The Cornwall school emphasises the "Brannel family atmosphere", paying special attention to the nurturing of confidence in all its students. The relationship between teachers and students is intended to be supportive, productive, warm and friendly, with a specific focus on encouraging cooperation across and between year groups.

Brannel School has specialisms in both English and the performing arts, as well as having specialist provision for the teaching of students with severe physical disabilities.

Ofsted report

The headteacher is ambitious for the school. He has made staff more accountable for the quality of their work by restructuring the performance management arrangements. Lesson observations take place with no notice and this contributes to a growing ‘open-door’ culture of professional dialogue and aspiration. Well-structured professional development opportunities are provided for staff. For example, many staff have taken the opportunity to learn coaching skills and some are studying for higher professional qualifications.”
