Windermere School is a lively, non-selective, co-educational boarding school for children aged 3 to 18 years. You will play an active role in boarding school life, whether in the classroom, at our RYA Sailing centre or outside in the Lake District National Park. Windermere School is an IB school and also a Round Square school.

The Science Department is seeking to appoint a dynamic and passionate chemist to join our strong and dedicated team on a full-time basis. The ability to teach at least one other science to GCSE is expected. You will have an ability to build, develop and maintain strong and positive relationships with all students, parents and colleagues alike. We are looking for the right inspiring and enthusiastic candidate to fill this role delivering excellence.

The successful candidate will:

• Have a good honours degree and PGCE/QTS and be capable of delivering a combination of two of the three science subjects up to KS4, with your specialist subject up to KS5. One of these subjects must be Chemistry.

• Demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with all pupils.

• Experience of teaching students with English as a second language desirable.

• Excellent communication skills enabling effective dialogue with pupils, parents, all staff and visitors.

• Committed to boarding school life, willing to engage in a range of extra-curricular activities.

• Hold a strong record of professional development, able to demonstrate a positive and proactive attitude towards participation in CPD.

• Awareness of and compliance with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding and child protection within a boarding school setting.

• Commitment to security, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety especially with regard to your role in the Science Department.

• Display excellent organisational skills with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines. 

• As a member of the science team, share responsibility for the development of schemes of work, resources, data and enrichment activities.

• Have experience of standardising coursework and internal examinations. 

• Possess a positive and adaptable attitude that adds to the collaborative culture of the school. 

• Be a confident and competent user of IT in all your roles.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

The post-holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact, will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy at all times.  If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The postholder will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

“A wide range of weekend activities takes place in school, in the surrounding area and elsewhere in the country. Many activities also take place on weekday afternoons and evenings. The school successfully implements its equality and anti-discrimination policy. Food is plentiful and nutritious and includes dishes appropriate to an international community. Appropriate policies are implemented for the care of sick or injured boarders. The school’s provision covers: first aid; chronic conditions and disabilities; emergencies, including those at night-time; and administration of prescribed and non-prescribed medication. The school educates the pupils about e-safety and cyber-bullying.”
