Job overview

Anglo European is seeking a part time (minimum 0.60) Teacher of Science to join a successful, collaborative and supportive Science Department from September 2019.  We would also consider a suitably qualified full time Teacher of Science.

The role will involve teaching students up to GCSE and an ability to teach in the sixth form would be desirable but not essential.  At GCSE, teachers are expected to teach beyond their specialism on occasions and, therefore, being able to teach beyond the specialism up to GCSE is a distinct advantage.  At KS3, students are taught general science and the successful candidate would be expected to teach general science at this level.

All science staff are encouraged to contribute to the development of the curriculum and are actively involved in developing science pedagogy and practice.  A commitment to STEM education and enrichment for our students is also highly valued.

The Science Department achieved 9-4 for GCSE Biology – 96%, Chemistry – 96%, Physics – 95% and Combined Science – 84%.  Science is a very popular subject in the Sixth Form with over 200 students taking Science courses.

The Anglo European School is a comprehensive school with a curriculum informed by internationalist principles, a strong international curriculum, a celebration of diversity and language learning, developing students who demonstrate outstanding personal, social and linguistic development.  All members of staff working at the school support the aims and ethos of the school and participate in the well-established visits and exchanges programme.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Anglo European School is located in the village of Ingatestone in Essex with easy access to the A12 and M25.  Ingatestone is also only a 30 minute train journey from Liverpool Street station.

About Anglo European School

Anglo European School is a 11-19, co-educational comprehensive school situated in Ingatestone, Essex. It has approximately 1,415 students.

The school was opened in 1973 after the closure of a secondary modern school led locals to campaign to keep the school open and the Local Authority, Essex, decided to establish a school with a “European Dimension”.

Anglo European School serves local needs but also draw students from across Essex and parts of London. In 1977 it became the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 1995 the first comprehensive school to become a specialist Language college. In 2005 the school established the first co-headship model in a state secondary school.

As a centre of excellence for language learning, the school offers Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as English as an Additional Language and Latin.  Up until age 16 all students study two languages other than English.

In the sixth form, students must study one language. They have a choice of A-levels or an opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. There is also the chance to study selected parts of the IB Diploma with A-levels. In addition, the International Baccalaureate Career Programme provides an internationally recognised vocational qualification.
