Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to teach well motivated pupils in an oversubscribed grammar school situated on the London Kent border, with easy access to both central London and the wonderful Kent countryside. Become part of our Odyssey and expand the horizons of our young people, our communities and our staff. Odyssey Trust for Education is a ground-breaking Trust comprising of a selective and secondary modern school with a combined student community of 3000.

We are looking for a suitably qualified teacher to join a highly successful department where Science is one of the most popular subjects at Advanced Level. This is an excellent opportunity to educate bright and engaging students in a large and progressive selective school for girls. There are over 1600 students on roll, including a co-educational sixth form of over 500 of which approximately half of the sixth form students take Mathematics and/or Science subject at A-level.

We are passionate about helping every student achieve their full potential in a caring, inclusive community and are looking for an ambitious and inspirational teacher of Science to join a well-resourced, highly skilled and successful department which is part of the wider STEM cluster. This would be an ideal opportunity for an NQT to start their teaching career in a department which values team work and a friendly working environment.

Our STEM provision extends beyond the curriculum with exciting fun-packed off curriculum STEM Days, a highly successful STEM Leadership program and numerous clubs and events throughout the academic year. Our recent ‘Y7 Magic of STEM’ Day and our celebration of British Science Week videos can be seen here:

We have exciting and innovative relationships with science specialist schools in Russia and Japan; together with our STEM trip to CERN in Switzerland we offer exciting international opportunities to interested scientists.

We welcome applications from either experienced teachers or current students working towards QTS/PGCE who will be entering into their NQT year from September. Ability to teach to A-level is essential.

We provide a full and robust induction programme for all new members of staff, as part of the Trust’s Staff Development Programme, with further support for staff new to the teaching profession. We encourage professional development across the Odyssey Trust including opportunities to share ideas for improving teaching and learning.

We offer a bespoke and personalised range of pathway opportunities, including NPQML, NPQSL and opportunities to study for a Diploma or Masters with Buckingham University. This position will provide a sound foundation for further promotion within the Odyssey Trust and beyond.

Townley Grammar School is committed to the wellbeing and happiness of staff. We have an extensive programme of wellbeing sessions for all staff and are committed to providing a positive and supportive working environment for all.
