The Norton Knatchbull School is looking for a Teacher of Science. This is a full-time fixed term position to 31 August 2023. We welcome applicants from either selective or wide ability settings, who are keen to work with high achieving and motivated students in a strong department. The post is equally suitable for an NQT or a more experienced colleague looking for a new challenge.


At Norton Knatchbull School an average of 80-85% of students study Triple Sciences at GCSE and numbers taking A Level science are strong and growing, with significant numbers of students pursuing Science related study at degree level. Student engagement and interest across all year groups is positive and beyond the classroom students engage in a wide range of extra-curricular activities in Science and STEM activities. The Science Department is well equipped with 10 laboratories, with two additional new laboratories opened in September 2021 as part of our new Digital Learning Centre.


The successful applicant will be joining a vibrant, supportive and cohesive department team. They will be expected to have the ability to teach all three sciences up to GCSE and the ability to offer an A Level subject would be desirable. Experienced colleagues will be expected to be demonstrate a proven track record of examination success –and in the case of an NQT evidence of the potential to do so. We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who can inspire both colleagues and students and lead by example.

For applicants currently serving as teachers, one of the referees should be your current Headteacher or Acting Headteacher. 


Deadline for applications: 9am - Wednesday 12th October 2022. We reserve the right to interview prior to this date depending on applications received. The selection process will involve a teaching activity with students, an opportunity to meet with colleagues in the Department and a panel interview.

About The Norton Knatchbull School

The Norton Knatchbull School is a single-sex, selective, 11-18, international school for boys, situated in Ashford in Kent. It includes a sixth form, where 25% of students in Years 12 and 13 are girls. The selection process requires a pass in the Kent Test for children in Year 7 or a pass in the school’s Casual Admissions Entrance Exam for pupils in Years 8-11. There are 1,185 students currently on the school roll, 255 of whom are sixth-form students.

The Norton Knatchbull School, which was originally named Ashford Grammar School, was founded in 1630 and was given its current name in 1975, after the school’s founder.
