Bolton Muslim Girls’ School is always over-subscribed with first choice applications. To meet with the growing demands for places and due to school’s popularity as an Outstanding school, the school has been successful in securing a capital funding for expansion. The additional capacity will result in 30 additional places with effect from 2020. The school will be raising its Year 7 intake from 120 to 150 from Sept 2020. The school will subsequently grow incrementally each year thereafter. The increased pupil population will enable the school to review the current staffing structure and create further career opportunities for staff.

This school is looking for someone who is dynamic in the classroom with the ability to differentiate the learning material to a range of ability levels.

The role involves teaching English up and including KS4 and previously teaching at both levels is a requirement.  The academic achievement of the school in terms of both attainment and progress has been excellent.  We have a team of dedicated teaching and support staff who are committed to ensuring all students reach their full potential.

Department Information

The successful candidate will join a big and ambitious department and they will contribute to the teaching and development of Science across the Key Stages.

Personal Qualities and Experience

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and innovative Science teacher to join an established and supportive team. The successful candidate will hold a Degree or equivalent in a field related to Science and will be expected to teach across the age and ability range. The ability to teach Physics at exam level would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be a talented and creative teacher, consistently delivering high quality lessons. The successful candidate will have a passion for their subject and a desire to inspire students to develop their own love of Science. They will have a proven record of raising and maintaining high educational standards and of developing positive and strong relationships with students and staff alike. They will have a knowledge of current developments in Science and will be able to deliver within existing schemes of learning and contribute to their review and the development of new schemes of learning.

The Department

Science is led by a Head of Department and there are seven other teaching staff who are well supported by a technician. The department is well equipped for practical work. Science has four well equipped laboratories. All subject areas have access to a staff work room which includes computer access, printers and photocopiers and additional resource space.

Curriculum

The department aims to provide broad and balanced science for all students using a wide variety of

teaching and learning styles. All staff teach all aspects of science at Key Stage 3 and usually teach their specialist subject at Key Stage 4. Our students follow a three-year Key Stage 3, as part of a 5-year curriculum, with students mostly taught in mixed ability classes. The more able are taught together to enable them to maximise progress in their scientific understanding. In Year 10, all students start GCSE and follow the AQA Science GCSE programme of study. All are taught the trilogy combined science content and some classes are taught the separate science GCSE programme of study. The department prides itself for producing outstanding GCSE results year after year. Please see enclosed our GCSE results in the document section.

Extra-Curricular Activities

The curriculum area prides itself in the support and assistance given to students at lunchtime and after school to help them achieve the highest possible grades.

About Bolton Muslim Girls School

Bolton Muslim Girls School, based in Bolton, Lancashire, was founded in 1987 for girls between the age of 11 and 16. In 2007, it transformed from an independent school to a voluntary aided establishment. It gained academy status and is sponsored by the Bolton Muslim Welfare Trust. The school currently educates around 600 students.
