Job overview

St Andrew’s is a flourishing, forward thinking co-educational (290 pupils aged 3 to 13) day/boarding IAPS prep school preparing its pupils for a range of senior schools, both locally and nationally. A number of children win scholarships to their senior schools.

St Andrew’s is looking to appoint an outstanding Science specialist, who is passionate about teaching science. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and energetic teacher who is experienced, enthusiastic and a child-centred professional who works well within a team.

The post involves teaching Years 3 to 8, preparing children for range of different senior school assessments which include Common Entrance and 13+ scholarship. It would also be advantageous if the post holder were able to offer extra-curricular activities and/or the ability to coach games.

It is not essential for the successful candidate to have years of experience, more importantly, we are looking for a dynamic individual who is enthusiastic, passionate for the subject and able to inspire children to be excited about science.  This is a great opportunity to join this growing and successful school.

St. Andrew’s was founded in 1934 and became a charitable trust administered by a board of governors in 1961. Since 1968 the school has been fully co-educational. The estate extends to 54 acres in magnificent Berkshire countryside between the villages of Pangbourne and Bradfield.

In recent years, the number of pupils has been steady at approximately 290, which is the currently intended maximum. Whilst it is predominantly a day school, ‘flexi-boarding’ operates and many children use this during their time at the school. The aim of the school is to provide the best possible broad-based education for children aged 3 to13. Pupils leave with an impressive number of scholarships. This year, seventeen of our twenty-three sixth form (Year 8) leavers have won awards, including academic, music, art and sports.
