Harris Academy Rainham is looking to appoint a qualified Teacher of Science to join its team of specialists, with the possibility of Lead Practitioner or Lead Practitioner Designate for appropriately experienced and qualified candidates.

The post will involve ensuring quality of delivery, assessment, achievement and progress in Science at Harris Academy Rainham in years 7 to 11 and the promotion of an imaginative, extensive and immersive experience including relevant practical experience, visits and trips.

What we are looking for

We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London, and helping create exceptional places of learning. Applications are welcome from experienced teachers, NQTs, RQTs or beginning teachers who are committed and passionate about Science and its impact on the overall development of students and who share our belief that every student can and should achieve. Applicants should have an engaging love of subject and an unwavering belief in the ability of pupils to exceed expectations, and must hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.

Candidates should have a drive to understand the thinking processes and drivers necessary for success in Science in addition to the intellectual and psychological barriers to the learning of the subject and be prepared to research and strategise to ensure that students make the best possible progress. As an educator, the successful candidate should recognise the need for students to develop outstanding habits of behaviour and learning and therefore be prepared to think outside of his or her discipline in order to achieve these aims.

You must hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree to be considered for this post.

We have high expectations of the way in which students should conduct themselves. We are consistent in our approach to encouraging good behaviour and the result of this is a culture that is always friendly, orderly and respectful.

Working for Harris Federation

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity. Led and run by teachers, we established our first school over 25 years ago.

There are now more than 40 happy and highly successful primary and secondary academies in our federation. All of these are in and around London. With each school that has joined us, the expectations we set ourselves have increased.

Every Harris academy so far inspected by Ofsted is rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, with three quarters of our inspected secondary academies judged ‘outstanding’. Our primary schools are newer, but almost half are ‘outstanding’, with the rest ‘good’.
