Job overview

Gad's Hill School is seeking a Teacher of Science to work in a small but ambitious Science department within our independent day school for pupils aged 3 to 16, in Higham, Kent,

Our collaborative Science team deliver teaching in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to small classes up to GCSE level, drawing inspiration and well-being from our beautiful, leafy setting in the grounds of the home of Charles Dickens.

The Science department at Gad’s Hill School, along with the school in general and the ability profile of our pupils, is on an upward trajectory at present. As the number of pupils on roll increases, we require a Teacher of Science to join our team.

Science teaching is currently delivered by three specialist teachers, supported by a technician, and all are capable of teaching any aspect of the subject. Our work on a single, coherent One Curriculum for the whole school means that Science teachers could be required to deliver lessons to pupils in the Lower School (Key Stage 2) as well as to our Upper School classes.  The department has use of four laboratories and a prep room.

Our pupils now commence study, in Upper Four (Year 9), towards separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs, although some will ultimately be entered for AQA Trilogy (combined) Science qualifications.

This department has proved its credentials as a collaborative and close-knit team in which new teachers can hone their craft. We value adaptable and innovative thinking and a commitment to evidence-based research and practice, and so this post may be suitable for an Early Career Teacher who remains open to learning and self-reflection. Further, the Head of Science has big plans for the future of the subject at Gad’s Hill and the right candidate will be a team player entirely ready to buy into a vision of the enormously important role of Science in education.
