Job overview

About the role:  The Leigh UTC and Inspiration Academy are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Teacher of Science for September 2017; an additional role within the experienced and hugely knowledgeable department to reflect the growth in student numbers as we widen our intake to Key Stage 3.  This is a truly fantastic opportunity for a passionate Teacher to become part of a well established, highly collaborative and successful team as we are confident that our teaching and support teams, our facilities and most importantly our students will inspire you.  There is no better place to teach Science than in a successful Academy where STEM is the focus! Join us for a visit at a time to suit you and allow us to demonstrate exactly what we have on offer.

We know that Science teachers are in high demand which is why we are offering a bonus of £2,000 paid in your first year for external candidates to attract the right person for the role.

Our successful candidate will join us on a permanent, full-time basis and must be able to teach at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.  We can be receptive to receiving applications from experienced Teacher and NQTs and can provide you with support, development and fantastic career prospects.  Please consult the Job Description attached for a more detailed overview of the responsibilities and duties of the role - these are in line with the National Teaching Standards.

Recent Ofsted success!  The Leigh UTC was recently judged as Good with Outstanding Leadership in our first inspection since opening.  Our key successes and features that our successful candidate can be part of are as follows;
- The promotion of pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding
- Pupils, including the disadvantaged and those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, catch up from previous underachievement and make strong and often rapid progress in a range of subjects and disciplines
- Application to learning is often exemplary
- The Leigh UTC makes a real difference for its pupils and surrounding area. Pupils become motivated to find and follow their passions. They leave well equipped to succeed in engineering and related technical and design careers and contribute to the economy.
- The Principal, with his leaders and staff team, model a high-quality working environment. This rubs off on pupils, who value the supportive ethos, work-like atmosphere.

About The Leigh UTC:  Having opened in September 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities, The Leigh UTC provides an exciting, innovative, business-led, problem-solving curriculum throughout Key Stage 4 and 5, enabling students to achieve relevant work-related qualifications and transferable skills for future training or employment. The project-based approach develops a deeper understanding of real issues and creates life-long real world learning in a 21st century engineering society.  The most unique feature of The Leigh UTC is its business ethos that are emphasised by our students' behaviours and supported by our sponsors.

About Inspiration Academy @ The Leigh UTC: As the importance of science, mathematics and technology grows in an increasingly global society, schools must prepare students to thrive in a highly complex world.  The Leigh UTC believes that all learners in the 21st century must have a solid background in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  With skills and knowledge in these areas, students at the Inspiration Academy will be able to maximise opportunities available through the rapid growth of technological innovations.

The mission of the Inspiration Academy is to develop curious, academically-skilled young people from Year 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3) who aspire to be principled, compassionate learners.  Through a rigorous, broad and balanced personalised learning programme, with a focus on science, technology, engineering and maths, the Inspiration Academy will afford its students the experiences, skills and values that will prepare them not only for examination courses within The Leigh UTC, but also for career pathways and global competition in the 21st century.  Our curriculum strives to create students who are self-motivated, competent, willing to take risks and lifelong learners.

At The Leigh UTC, we create opportunities for meaningful collaboration for staff, we provide a respectful working environment and we encourage innovation from every member of our team. Our Principal, Governors, teaching and support staff believe wholeheartedly in creating opportunities for lifelong success for our young people and believe that exam success is just one aspect in achieving this. We deliver amazing experiences for students whilst not compromising on outcomes. Our teamwork allows us to be greater than the sum of our parts - join us to achieve more than you thought possible.

Curriculum is king and we do things a little differently to other schools or colleges because we believe the most effective way to educate our students is to make our learning more hands-on. With the International Baccalaureate Middle Years programme (MYP) at KS3, GCSEs at KS4, and A-levels, T-levels and the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme (IBCP) at KS5, our ambitious curriculum offer caters for choice, leading the vast majority of students into STEM-related careers or courses.
