Job overview

Accrington Academy is part of united Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. By collecting expertise and combining resources, we help to make the tough job of teaching a little easier. With a shared curriculum and lesson plans from around the group available to all, our teachers have strong foundations to lead the engaging, rounded education our children deserve. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we share this resource and communicate across sites, helping to simplify processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with wide career opportunities – between Primary and Secondary, Academy and Independent – better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of helping every child at each of our schools to succeed and reach their full potential.

Due to the promotion of existing teachers of Science, a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding Science Teacher/Lead Practitioner has arisen.

The Academy is on the road to outstanding with high expectations and an unswerving commitment to ensure that every student achieves their goals at the heart of our rapid improvement.

Science is a thriving and popular subject at both Key Stages 4 and 5. A full range of courses, including Additional, Triple, BTEC and A-level, run within the department. As a result of demand in Science we have recently added a £750,000 Science block extension to our already outstanding facilities.

As a school we encourage our staff to work creatively; we believe our success is from a willingness to take risks and look at things from a very innovative angle. Our status as a national school of creativity and Apple training centre, evidence our approach to ensure outstanding learning is at our core.

This is the perfect opportunity to help to build and extend a major strand of the Academy’s curriculum provision in a popular, successful and oversubscribed school. If you would like to see more, then please contact us and we would be delighted to welcome you for a visit.

Being part of United Learning, one of the leading school groups in the country, we offer unrivalled career development opportunities and support to ensure you achieve your ambitions.

We are a popular, vibrant and successful 11-18, non-selective school. Our motto as part of the UL family of academies is “The Best in Everyone”.

In March 2015 OFSTED identified that we were a ‘good’ school. The cornerstone of our success is that students enjoy school.  “Students’ attitudes to learning are positive. Students want to do well at the academy”.  – OFSTED MARCH 2015

We have developed a culture of “hard work” and “dedication” from our students and staff alike, where high expectations and a desire for success are standard and everyone is proud to belong to Accrington Academy.

We believe that everyone at the academy can be outstanding and we seek to draw out the full potential in everyone. We do this by instilling the following values in all our students:

  • Ambition
  • Determination to succeed
  • Respect for others, ourselves and the environment we live and work in
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence
  • Creativity
