Job overview

A unique opportunity to join an outstanding academy

September 2015 marked the formal start of our transformation to an 11-16 academy. The first cohort of 336 students joined us in Year 7 and by 2020 The Morley Academy will have over 1680 students on roll and will be one of the largest 11-16 academies in the country. A forward thinking, innovative and dynamic academy we work within the nationally renowned GORSE Academies Trust led by Sir John Townsley, to ensure our Outstanding provision is not only retained but is also built upon.

Judged Outstanding for the first time in 2009 and re-designated as Outstanding in every Ofsted category in May 2013 we have a track record of excellence both in terms of student outcomes and professional development. In March 2012 we were awarded Teaching School Status and in September 2015 our School Centred Initial Teacher Training Centre opened supporting the development of over 90 trainee teachers.

Examination results have risen dramatically across the academy over the last five years and this includes value added data which places us as the top performing school in Leeds and amongst the top performing schools nationally. In 2015, 69.4% of students at The Morley Academy secured 5 A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics. Furthermore The Morley Academy was one of only five schools in Leeds to opt into the Government’s new progress measures. The academy’s Progress 8 figure, which is the measure that compares the performance of students from similar starting points across a range of eight different subjects nationally, was 0.51, meaning that, on average, students achieved half a grade higher in each of their GCSE subjects than other students did nationally. In addition the academy’s Progress 8 score for the EBacc subjects was 0.91, meaning that, on average, students achieved almost one full grade higher in each of their EBacc subjects than similar students did across the country.

This role represents an incredibly exciting opportunity for any candidate who is eager to play a key role in an organisation that seeks to secure the very highest educational standards for students. Our students receive Outstanding pastoral care, support and guidance and we would expect any successful candidate to be of a mind-set where they believe anything is possible.

If you are excited about the prospect of working in our outstanding Science department we would be delighted to hear from you.

An application pack which provides further details of the role is available to download directly from our website at www.morley.leeds.sch.uk, by email to recruitment@morley.leeds.sch.uk.

Please note if you submit an electronic application we will not require a hard copy. CVs are not accepted.

Closing date: Friday 6 May 2016 at noon.

The Morley Academy is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children, and applicants will be subject to full employment checks, including an enhanced DBS disclosure.

11-16 years with Year 13 (17-19) for 2015-16 only, 1495 students
Executive Principal: Sir John Townsley
Principal: Leanne Griffiths

Recently accredited as a World Class School The Morley Academy is one of only 48 schools in the country to have the outcomes, attitudes and skills-sets of the student body recognised in this way.  We are extremely proud of this award and feel it captures our vision and ethos in a poignant manner.

We are a humble organisation that does not rest on its laurels.  We are always keen to listen and learn and we are eager to work in partnership with students and parents, carers and governors to continue to ensure our provision is the best it can possibly be.  As the founding member of the nationally renowned GORSE Academies Trust we benefit from expert partnership networks which provide a rich climate for discussion, debate, moderation and the sharing of resources.  Furthermore through the academy’s SCITT we benefit from working alongside and supporting the development of professionals new to teaching; we recognise the advantages that this offers and relish the opportunity to work collaboratively.

We are thrilled you are considering applying for a role with us; we can assure you if you do you will not be disappointed!
