Teacher of Science

Alsop High School is a mixed community comprehensive school situated in Walton, at the north end of Liverpool, easily accessible to local transport links. We currently have approximately 1550 students on roll, of which 300 are in the 6th Form, and we are oversubscribed for 2019. We are an inclusive school with a commitment to raising aspirations, creating life chances and achievement for all. The position of Headteacher for September 2019 has become available due to the current Headteacher moving to a new post. 

Alsop is a local authority maintained school. The successful candidate will have the support of School Improvement Liverpool, who provide a wide range of school improvement services. 

The last Ofsted report in 2017 judged the school as 'Requires Improvement'. Since that inspection, the school has seen an increase in both Maths and English outcomes at GCSE, with some outstanding results in Spanish GCSE, vocational courses at both Level 2 and Level 3, and A level courses during that time. School leaders are outward facing and work with a variety of agencies including School Improvement Liverpool, our local authority and other secondary schools.

Alsop works very closely with its local community and hosts the Walton Youth Project, which uses the school four evenings per week. Community is central to our school philosophy, whether that means within the school community or our local area, and our students are actively involved. We have outstanding relationships with local primary schools and community partners. 

Alsop has developed several award-winning community initiatives; Hope 2016 and Faith 2017 provided the catalyst for Alsop to link with local institutions, generate neighbourhood pride, bring people together, form character, prepare for citizenship, and encourage young people to take responsibility. These initiatives have gained local, national and international interest. We were awarded the Educate 2018 Communication Award, the Educate 2017 Community Partnership Award and we were shortlisted for TES Education Awards in both 2017 and 2018. 

Inspirational speakers regularly visit Alsop to raise aspirations and speak about career opportunities. We recently hosted the Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney. These visits bring stories of hope in the face of obstacles and social injustice. Community events demonstrate that Alsop truly is a beating heart of our community here in North Liverpool. 

During 2019, Alsop celebrates its centenary year. The Bishop of Liverpool, Rt. Rev. Paul Bayes writes:

The school rooted in the north Liverpool community continues to be a force of the common good and shines as a beacon of hope to empower the aspirations and needs of all." 

Our students are at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to provide them with the best educational experience possible, both in the classroom and outside of the classroom. In the last 3 years 300 students have obtained university places, well above the national average. Many of those students were the first generation from their family to access higher education.
