Teacher of Science – Main scale

From 1st September 2021 We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, outstanding and inspirational teacher to be a part of our highly successful Science Department.  Ideally with a chemistry background, you will bring to the role a love of learning, a passion for science and a dedication to our “participate and celebrate” school culture.  The post is suitable for NQT applicants however we welcome applications from all experienced candidates.

The Science Department are an enthusiastic, collaborative, forward thinking team, focussed on developing and delivering engaging lessons that allow students to progress to their full potential.

The department has 10 fully equipped labs, 2 classrooms and a well-stocked preparation room. Each teacher has their own lab/classroom equipped with interactive whiteboard and visualiser and the team is supported by our expert science technicians.

All year groups have 2 teaching bands. At year 7 students are taught as mixed ability groups, with one foundation learning class per band; year 8 & 9 students are set with 2 equal ability top sets, 2 middle mixed ability sets and a foundation learning set per band. For GCSE (beginning in year 9) students are put in sets with the top set aiming for 3 GCSEs in single sciences, a higher ability Combined Science class, 2 middle ability classes and a foundation learning class.

KS3 teachers teach across the 3 science disciplines, however at KS4 we focus on teachers’ specialisms to deliver outstanding Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons, allowing teachers to enthuse students about their specialist subject and become subject specialists.

We use a range of online platforms for assessment and feedback which encourage student engagement, independence and out of school participation. These include Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, Educake, GCSEpod, Seneca, Century Tech and mygcsescience.

The successful candidate will:

• Be an outstanding classroom practitioner or show the potential to become outstanding.

• Be passionate about science.

• Be committed to student achievement and aspirations.

• Show commitment to the Academy’s values.

NQTs, RQTs and new staff benefit from a well-developed and comprehensive induction programme and all staff have access to personalised CPD. More experienced teachers are given the opportunity to participate in training which will help them to develop skills needed for middle and senior leadership roles.

Great Academies Education Trust is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and the successful candidate will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
