The science department comprises 19 teaching staff together with 3 technicians and is housed in 15 modern, fully equipped laboratories. Students follow the OCR Gateway course at GCSE while post 16 students undertake A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics also with OCR. Macmillan Academy is situated in Middlesbrough on Teesside. It is a good school with 1500 students on roll including around 350 in the Post 16 phase.
