Job overview

Outwood Academy Brumby is a good school with outstanding leadership. Ofsted 2015 commented “Students enjoy coming to school” and students say “they are exceptionally well cared for and feel safe”.

We are a thriving academy that plays an integral role in our community. The academy is popular and numbers on role are increasing significantly year on year. We have a talented team of staff, who are committed to improving the life chances of all students irrespective of their background or starting points. If you believe in raising standards and transforming lives, then this is the post for you.

This is an opportunity to join our Academy at an exciting time as we strive for excellence in all areas, transforming the lives of the young people in our care. We have made vast leaps in GCSE achievement with the science department delivering overall positive progress in 2016 and 46.8% of our students achieved at least two GCSEs in Science (36.7% in 2015), with an improved projection for 2017.

At GCSE, we teach AQA specifications in Core and Additional Science as well as separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics to a number of students. In addition to this, some students opt to study OCR Environmental Land Based Science and we believe that the diverse curriculum that we offer, prepares students well for the rigours of their GCSE courses and beyond.

We are making carefully considered and sustainable changes which will continue to improve the achievements and hence, life chances of our students. Being part of the Trust comes with many advantages, including being able to access the extensive advice, support, resources, CPD and career opportunities available from the Outwood Grange Family of Schools.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools offers:

  • The opportunity to work and progress across the Family of Schools.
  • The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps working across the whole Academy.
  • A full and detailed programme of support and development for all.
  • A further comprehensive programme of professional development provided through the Outwood Institute of Education (formerly the Teaching School).

We believe that all teaching and support staff posts within our Family of Schools are key posts in terms of supporting student success and achievement across a broad range of subjects and experiences.

As such we are keen to recruit dedicated and ambitious professionals who will add value to our Academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom.

Chief Executive Officer: Lee Wilson

Lead Principal: Darren Smith

Head of School: Amber Bradley

We are proud that Outwood Academy Brumby is rated Good with Outstanding leadership by Ofsted and we are based in the friendly, North Lincolnshire town of Scunthorpe with easy access to the stunning countryside. The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2012 and has been transformed beyond recognition, having formerly been in Special Measures.

We provide every opportunity for children to be successful and pride ourselves on the outcomes they achieve and we were delighted that after its latest visit, Ofsted noted that staff at the academy ‘understand the needs and interests of pupils well,’ and highlighted that ‘pupils say that staff are supportive.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs.

As we strive to become Outstanding, help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
