Job overview

Due to an increase in student numbers we are excited to be able to recruit two Teachers of Science. An excellent knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology is essential. Applications are welcome from existing teacher trainees or from more experienced colleagues. You will be a motivated, enthusiastic and driven individual who has the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First’.

Just 30 minutes from Sheffield and Doncaster and with good links to both the M1 and A1, Outwood Academy Portland is a thriving learning community for both students and staff. Our staff are dedicated to securing the best possible outcomes for every student and are enormously proud of Ofsted’s Outstanding rating awarded in 2014. The hard work of both students and staff culminated in student progress placing the academy well within the top 5% of schools nationally and in 2015 81% of our students achieved 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths.

We are a warm and welcoming academy, where students are placed at the heart of everything. Behaviour across the academy is impeccable. There is an innovative focus on the development of learning and teaching, along with a wealth of exciting curriculum opportunities to ensure that students reach their full potential.

The academy is part of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, which is nationally recognised as one of the highest performing multi academy trusts in the country. Outwood Academy Portland’s achievements, and transformation under the Trust, have been recognised by the DfE in a recent case study available on their website.

The professional development of staff is a priority for both the academy and the Trust. All staff benefit from two hours professional development every week, along with opportunities to access professional courses through the Outwood Institute of Education. Outwood Academy Portland also benefits from being one of 3 Outwood academies within Worksop. Alongside Outwood Academy Valley and Outwood Post 16 Centre, staff at Outwood Academy Portland can choose to access unprecedented opportunities for working across more than one school. Being part of the wider Trust, which also has a number of academies across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, also provides a significant amount of career progression.

We would be delighted to welcome any prospective applicants to come and visit the academy, or for an informal discussion about the role, please contact Dr Phil Smith, Associate Executive Principal on 01909 471010.

For further information and to apply, please go to: www.outwood.com > Vacancies. Alternatively, you can contact our HR Team directly by telephone: 01909 471023 or email: hr@portland.outwood.com

We are proud that Outwood Academy Portland is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, our students have achieved impressive exam result success.

We have created an educational environment where staff and students constantly strive to improve; where teachers sharpen their skills and expand their repertoires to deliver an outstanding learning experience; and where teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, tutors, inclusion support assistants and students operate as a seamless team. This enables everybody, staff and students, to not only see but also help fulfil the potential in each other. Following its latest visit, Ofsted noted that our ‘teachers and support staff comment positively about the opportunities they have for regular training to develop their skills.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
