Job overview

Cheney School is a popular, high-performing school located in the heart of Oxford serving a diverse community of students who are eager to learn and to be challenged. You can read the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection here: Ofsted Report and a welcome message from our Headteacher here: Head's Welcome.

We are committed to continuous professional development and have wide-ranging training and development opportunities. We are also mindful of the competing demands people face in their lives so are happy to consider part-time applications. If you are not familiar with Oxfordshire, we would recommend that you take a look at: Living in Oxfordshire – Information for Teachers

If you are a passionate and knowledgeable Science teacher committed to truly comprehensive education in Oxford, we think there is nowhere better to teach science than Cheney School. A fantastic and diverse student body, a brilliant team of teachers and technicians who are as supportive as you'll ever find and leadership in the department that is focussed on great teaching, the science of learning and excellent behaviour.

Our priority is to give every student who walks through our doors the best Science education they can get, whatever their starting point or background. We are mindful of staff wellbeing and continually aim to maximise student learning without increasing workload. We create and share resources, quiz students often, and set homework online that is marked automatically. We develop great relationships with our students and communicate regularly with their parents.

We are a large, thriving Science department, working in excellent facilities. We are motivated and ambitious for our students, who make excellent progress – GCSE results are significantly above the national average and two thirds of students in the sixth form take one or more Science courses.

You will be a key member of the department, instilling a passion for Science, and committed to the learning of all students across all key stages, regardless of their background, needs or prior attainment. You should be able to teach Science up to GCSE and an A level Science subject.

Visits to the school prior to interview are warmly welcomed. To arrange a visit or if you would like more information about the role, please contact Ben Preston, Head of Science, at: bpr@cheneyschool.org.

Payment is on Teacher Main Scale or Upper Pay scale depending on experience.
