Job overview

SCIENCE TEACHER – Biology, Chemistry, or Physics Specialism for September 2017

Cheney School is a popular, high performing school located in the heart of Oxford serving a diverse   community of students who are eager to learn. Following successful examination results and a positive Ofsted report the school has recently expanded to become a Multi Academy Trust

We are a forward thinking Science department committed to engaging and enthusing students through an enquiry based approach to learning; we are motivated and ambitious to ensure our students fulfill their potential and achieve highly, and we are looking for a likeminded colleague to join our strong and successful department. Results show our students make excellent progress – GCSE results are significantly better than national averages and over 70% of students go on to study at least one Science at 6th form. We have a wide curriculum that supports the needs of our students; 40% of GCSE students take Separate Sciences and we offer traditional A levels and BTEC Level 3 qualifications.

You will be a key member of the department, creating a passion for Science and committed to quality learning for all pupils and students across all key stages. You should be able to teach all three sciences up to KS4, one science to KS5 (A level or BTEC standard) and have the desire and capacity to bring about outstanding learning in the classroom.

Cheney School is committed to CPD and The Oxfordshire Science Learning Partnership (SLP) is led by the department on behalf of OTSA. The SLP provides opportunities for local teachers and technicians working with pupils aged 5 – 19 to enhance their professional skills. This takes the form of co-ordinating networks and network meetings, as well as providing a range of high quality, nationally developed, CPD delivered by experienced practitioners working in OTSA partner schools. In summer 2016 we moved into our new purpose-build Science Block; with five fully equipped laboratories, four science studios, preparation areas and open plan computer areas. This building will provides an extension to our existing facilities and has allowed for engaging, hands-on science learning to be at the centre of our practice.

This post suitable for NQTs and those with more experience and we would be happy to appoint either full-time or part-time teachers.
