Hitchin Boys’ School (HBS) is an outstanding and over-subscribed comprehensive school with a mixed sixth form, which forms part of the highly successful Hitchin Schools’ Consortium. We have a history that stretches back nearly 400 years but embrace fresh thinking and a modern, vibrant curriculum. We have high expectations, excellent standards of behaviour and pride in our extra-curricular activities that lead to academically successful and well-rounded students who are well equipped for life beyond school.

We are now seeking a Teacher of Science to join our team in September 2025 to teach Physics alongside GCSE sciences.

The Physics A-Level course at HBS is consistently oversubscribed, making it one of the most popular subject choices among students. This high demand reflects the strength and success of our Physics department, as well as the students' keen interest in pursuing physics-related fields. The successful candidate will join a thriving and academically focused team dedicated to fostering a deep understanding and passion for physics.

The successful candidate will be passionate about their subject, able to motivate students and will bring new ideas as the school builds on its excellent status. Teaching high quality lessons and a focus on high standards and engagement is vital to the role. Applications from those wishing to contribute to other aspects of school life outside the classroom are particularly welcome.

The appointment would suit either an experienced teacher or an enthusiastic Early Career Teacher, as the school provides a thorough and successful training programme.

The successful candidate will:

  • have excellent subject knowledge and teaching skills (with particular focus on Physics)
  • be inspiring, dynamic and passionate about their subject
  • promote the HBS Values

What can HBS offer you?

  • A school with great traditions, excellent reputation but with a modern outlook
  • Students who are keen to learn having made Hitchin Boys’ their first choice
  • A dedicated, well qualified and experienced staff who share the goal enshrined in our school motto “Per Ardua Ad Alta” – Striving for Excellence
  • A campus that combines state of the art facilities with historic Grade II listed buildings
  • The opportunity to work in a secure, supportive environment
  • A full induction programme for all new staff and CPD tailored to your individual needs

Application deadline: 12 noon on Wednesday 26th February 2025*

Interviews: Friday 7th / Tuesday 11th March*

*Candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as we reserve the right to close this advert early if a suitable candidate is identified.

HBS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check will be carried out for all posts.

HBS welcomes applications from all applicants who meet the requirements for the position, however we are especially keen to receive applications from those in minority groups for which the school is currently underrepresented. We celebrate diversity and thrive on the benefits it brings.
