Founded in 1791, The St Marylebone CE School is a very successful, oversubscribed Church of England girls’ school with a mixed sixth form, serving students of all faiths or no faith. Rated successively “outstanding” by Ofsted, the School is a dynamic and inspiring place to work and invests energetically in the growth of its staff. 

We are seeking to appoint a driven and enthusiastic teacher of Science. Candidates must be able to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Ideally, we are looking for a Physics specialist, to join our team of three other physicists.

Applications are welcome from experienced teachers or NQTs. The School offers an excellent NQT induction programme. 

The position is full-time, starting September 2017.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMET:

The whole Science department achieves outstanding outcomes for its pupils (95% A*-C in 2016) and takes pride in being creative and dynamic in its teaching and enrichment. Pupils are taught separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics classes from Year 9, by a subject specialist. There is a strong up-take of Triple Science at GCSE Science. A-Level Physics has a high take-up and achievement is promoted at all levels; every year a significant number of students secure places to study Sciences at university. The department takes an active lead in the whole-school STEM programme, including CREST Awards.

The Science department contributes significantly to the St Marylebone Teaching School and the department is the lead subject area for school to school support in the Triborough and across the Alliance, CPD and in delivery of SLP courses. We actively encourage and support teachers who wish to develop this aspect of their careers.

LOCATION:

The School is situated in a prime Central London location on Marylebone High Street with excellent transport links. Nearest tube stations: Baker Street, Regents’ Park, Bond Street. Nearest train stations: Paddington, Marylebone, Euston.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

· Qualified to degree level 

· Qualified Teacher Status in a relevant subject

· Successful experience of teaching Science at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. 

· Evidence of at least good teaching leading to high attainment and progress

· Evidence of relevant subject-based CPD

· Understanding of the use of assessment to inform planning and improve student performance

· Ability to set consistently high expectations for all students through class work, homework and enrichment

· Ability to work effectively in a team

· Excellent communication skills

· Commitment to enrichment and extra-curricular provision, in the development of students

· Ability to engage, enthuse and motivate students

· Ability to organise, plan and prioritise effectively

· Enthusiasm, drive and love of learning

· Flexibility, adaptability and creativity

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.
